Skip Knouf of Cass Lake, scaler for the surveyor-general of logs and lumber, came in from Cass Lake last evening and spent the night in city. Mr. Knouf left this morning for Tenstrike, where he will do some scaling for the state. W. A. Shaw and Fred Murray of Owatonna returned this morning from the - woods north of Bemidji, where they had been hunting. They had poor luck, but intend to try some other location in the hopes of getting some deer before returning home. T. A. W. H. Squier, the heavyweight north-country manager for the Chicago Coal and Lumber company, came down from Blackduck this morning and left this noon for Du- luth on a business trip. Mr. Squier says that his Irish dogs are rapidly mastering the Yankee tongue,despite the fact that they were born on the “ould” sod. W. R. Tait, T. J. Miller and Adam Otto of this city, together with Dell McCrossen, a land man from St. i Paul, left today for Lake George. Gowran and daughter of Grand Forks left this morning for Brainerd, where they will visit for a few days with Mr.| and Mrs. Thomas Beare, at the Hotel Ransford.
