Railway company, passed through the city last evening on a business trip up the north line of the M. & I. railway. Miss Grace Holmes, a teacher in the Mankato schools who has been visiting at the home of Mrs. E. H. Cornwall, left this morning for Man- kato, having terminated a vacation of a month. H. P. Burroughs returned last evening from a business trip to the twin cities and also at Princeton, Wis. Mr. Burroughs purchased fur- niture while away for the new Mer- chants’ hotel, which he has leased. Frank Lattimer of Turtle River spent yesterday in the city, consult- ing a physician. Mr. Lattimer is suffering with neuralgia of the lungs. He returned to his home last evening and will come down to the fair next week, if it is at all possible for him to do so. J. G. McDonald left last night for Big Falls, after having spent the last fortnight here as conductor on the south-bound M. & I. local freight train, subbing for Joseph Golemboski. Mr. McDonald will assume charge of a construction train on the Big Falls-International Falls extension of the M. & I.rail- way. ’ A. C. Leslie, the attorney and general representative for A. A. White and the latter’s interests, passed through the city last evening on his way from St. Paul to Little- fork, Mr. White’s townsite. Mr. Leslie will stop at Tenstrike on his return and will go from here to points in North Dakota on a busi- ness trip for Mr. White. J. H. Scribner, the general north- country representative for the Crocker & Crowl Land company of Minneapolis, left this morning for Minneapolis. Mr. Kinney is shipping large quantities of wood from Hines to points in North Dakota, Odin Ulseth was in the city yes- terday from Baudette. Mr. Ulseth and family will spend the winter on their farm, two miles north'of Farley, where Mr. Ulseth has a large amount of timber to log. Eric Olson came down from ‘Black- duck this morning and went to Cass Lake today to make final proof on his claim. He was accompanied by John McHugh, who acted as a witness to the proof. J. V. Stone, who operates a re- freshment parlor and confectionery store at Fargo, N. D., arrived in the city this morning and will spend a few days looking over the “future metropolis of Northern Minnesota” with a view to locating here. E. H. French returned this morning from a visit to Blackduck, where he talked fair to the people of that place. Mr. French states that Blackbuck is doing nobly towards preparing exhibits for the fair. Blackbuck will send at least onecar, and perhaps - two to the fair. Should ““Cut It Qut.” A numbea of reckless youths of the city have become enamored of the pastime of climbing to the belfry of the Norwegian church, of late, and vigorously ringing the bell. The practice -is -very annoying to the (| residents of that part of the city, and if the “kids” (or anyone else who participates in the ringing) don’t stop the trick, action will be | taken to invoke the strong arm of the law in the matter.
