Pioneer Mrs. S. R. Moorhead spent yester- day in this city on her return to Crookston, after having visited for a couple of weeks with friends at Turtle River. Joe Markham returned last night to Blackduck, after spending Sun- day in this city. Mr. Markham has charge of the Blackduck Ameri- can during the absence of Editor Oberg, who, with his family, are visiting relatives and friends in Wisconsin. Ole Ferguson, who owns a saloon and hotel at Cass Lake, and who is also a homesteader and general all- around hustler of the thirty-third degree, came down this mornjing from a claim which he owns near| Big Falls, and this noon went to Cass Lake to note how his business was progressing at that place, F. W. VanWirt and wife passed through the city this morning on their way from their home at Big Falls to Walker,where they intended to visit with old friends, they having at one time lived in Walker. - M_n VanWirt is proprietor of the Hotel Robinson, at Big Falls, one of the very best hostelries in the norfih country. Charles W. Scrutchin left : last evening for Big Falls, where he' will appear as attorney for James God- ette, the colored man who shot and killed Williams, near Big Falls, last Wednesday afternoon. E. E. Mc-| Donald of this city has been retained as attorney for Godette, but was unable to go to Big Falls last even- ing and sent Mr. Scrutchin in his place. “Uncle” George Wetsel, president of the Beltrami County Old Settlers’ Association, came down ' this morn- ing from his home at Tenstrike and spent the day in the city.
