Thompson and little daughter came down this morning from Blackduck and passed on through . to New Hampdon, Iowa, where they will visit with relatives for a month, Ralph Lycan and Clarence Huck have gone to Bena, where they will make contracts for blueberries “on the stump,” as the berries have not ripened yet, and will not be ready to pick for a few days. Alex, C. Mather, the dean of the Grand Forks summer visitors who make Bemidji their headquarters, arrived in the city yesterday from Grand Forks and will enjoy an out- ing here for a month. Mrs. Thomas Beare, who has been the guest of Mrs. F. S. Lycan at the Hotel Markham for a week past, left this morning for her home at Brainerd. Her daughter Louise will remain here for some time yet. Harvey Miller, one of the best of the “good fellows” over at Cass Lake, came over from the “Lake” yesterday afternoon on _a business trip, Mr. Miller owned a fine timber claim near Kelliher, and while he was here yesterday he disposed of the merchantable “stuff” which is standing on his possessions. Mrs. Wm. Hubbard and Mrs. L. C. Michaels leave the fore part of next week for Seattle, Washington, where they will make their home. A reception and farwell party was given them last Monday evening by the Degree of Honor, of which lodge they have been active members since its organization three years ago. Walsh, sheriffi of Koochi- ching county,arrived in the city last evening, returning from Stillwater, where he took Rudolph Label to serve a three-year term in the state’s prison. Label robbed a home- steader’s shack at Bridgie. Henry Stechman, proprietor of the Hotel Stechman at Tenstrike, was among the members of the school boards who attended the meeting held here yesterday. He was accompanied by Mrs. Knappen and Mr. E. Thompson, who are also menbers of the school board at Tenstrike. G. A. Green of Minneépolis, the northwestern representative for the Oliver Typewriter company, has been in the city during the last three days. Mr. Green is accom- panied by Mrs, Green, who is enjoy- ing the outing here to the utmost, Mrs. Green visited here a year ago and has many friends in Be- midji. - in this city looking after some busi- ness matters. T. W. Bailey, deputy sheriff of Koochiching county, left last night for International Falls, after having spent two days in this city on offi- cial business: J. E. Wilkin of Cass Lake, the general representative for the Fitger Brewing company, came over from Cass Lake yesterday afternoon and went to Farley last evening. Rev. Alfred Hall-Quest returned to Blackduck last evening. The reverend gentleman took along with him a canine with a rare pedigree land an elegant coat of yellow hair. L. W. Bills of Park Rapids, post- master at Park Rapids, a member of the last legislature and one of the best attorneys in Hubbard county, came up from Park Rapids last evening and spent last night in the city. Peter McAlpine, a cruiser and timber estimator and dealer from Duyluth, came over from the Zenith city yesterday morning and went to Blackduck yesterday to look over some timber which he may purchase. The deal involves about $8,000. The Misses Rice and Rongrud, of Minneapolis, gave an elocutionary entertainment at the opera house Monday evening to a small audience. Francis, owner of the Miz- pah Message, was a visitor in the city yesterday, returning- to his home yesterday evening.Mr. Francis has fully recovered from the serious illness which last winter threat- ened to end his career, and is doing well at Mizpah. R. F. Miner, brother of Mrs J. J. Conger has gone to Churdan, Iowa, for a visit. He was accompanied by Glenn Conger, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Conger. The Park Rapids baseball team will play a game here Sunday against the locals. Bemidji won a game from the Park Rapids players, on the local grounds, recently, but the victory was only gained after a very hard struggle which turned the score in the last two innings.
