Fred Eberline, general man- ager of the Bemidji Brewery, and A. L. Weyler, auditor for the Brewing company, went to Kelliher last evening on business for the local “hop factory.” D. F. Tilden, a cedar buyer who makes his headquarters at Tenstrike, spent last night in the city and returned to the “Strike’’ this morning. Mr. Tilden was initiated into the Elks at their meeting last night. A. T, Hatcher, the logger, was in the city yesterday from the scene of his logging operations near Island Lake. He reports everything progressing nicely in getting out the timber cut dur- ing the past winter. W. E. Hazen, who is in charge of the gang of men who are building the power dam on the Mississippi river east of Bemidji, came in from camp last evening and went to Nary this morning on a business errand. ‘“Bill” states that werk on the dam is moving along at a “lively clip,” Dr. Blakeslee returned this morning from Blackduck, where he went last evening to investi- gate, for the county, a case that was at first reported to be small- pox. He found the son of Ole Anderson suffering with spinal meningitis. The case is one which necessitates the care of the county. Ole Kittleson, long distance lineman for the Northwestern Telephone Exchange company, left this morning for Tenstrie to adjust some difficulties in the company’s lines there. The ’phone in the store of 8. A. Thompson cannot be used to call up Bemidji, and Mr. Kittleson repaired the breakage this fore- noon. - Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Thompson and their little daughter came down this morning from their home at Blackduck and spent the day in the city with Bemidji friends. Mr. Thompson is the proprietor of the Palace hotel at the “Duck,” and is one of the most popular landlords along the north line of the M. & I. Mrs. Dahl became ill while she was visiting at Two Harbors, necessitating Mrs, McLean go- ing there, but she has recovered and is again alout as well ag usual, . W. H. Squier, A, O’Kelliher and Dr. Monahan returned this morning to their homes at Black- duck. Dr. Monahan was taken through the Elks last evening, and it is said that Brother Squier and O’Kelliher saw to it that he got everything that was coming to him in the shape of “work.” Herbert Wood, the foreman of the Daily Pioneer; has a far- away-look in his eye, since yes- terday noon. Itall comes from his meditations regarding that son and heir which his good wife presented to him yesterday. Herb says he knows the youngster will make a fine tuba player—he has excellent lung power, already. Willis Brannon, proprietor of the Hotel Brannon at Northome, passed through the city on his way home from a visit to the twin cities, whither he went to purchase some new furniture for bis hotel. Mr. Brannon states that he will not be able to reopen the hotel for a least another week. The loss caused by the fire which damaged the office of the hotel, has been adjusted, but it takes time 1o repair after the adjusters have taken their allotted time to make their esti mates and pay their losses. =l - Peter Slough, the Nar& agri- culturiss, was in the city today. Cherry of Long Prairie, who is now a commerecial traveler, spent last night in the city. Mr. Cherry will be remembered as having acted as starter at the races held here last fall. Ole Bjoin and son of Crookston arrived in the city this morning from Blackduck and left this afternoon for their home in the “Queen City.”” They had been; looking after some timber on Blackduck lake which Mr. Bjoin owns. W. T. Blakeley, the Farley log- ger, came down from Farley this morning and spent the day here, looking after some matters in connection with his timber oper- ations on Turtle River lake. He reports work moving along nicely with him. O. Brown of Richmond Ind., end J. C. Brady of Wabash, Ind., arrived in the city last evening and will remain here during the balance of the summer. They are old friends of J. M. Barney, who was at one time a resident of Indiana. R. E. White, the Duluth log- ger, arrived in the city yester- day from Rochester, Minn,, where he went to consult the physicians at the Mayo hospital, concerning an ailment. He was much benefitted by his trip to the hospital. oy William Lennon, the mayor of Kelliher, came down from his home this morning and spent the day in the city looking after some business matters. He re- ports business as being some- what “‘slack’ in his town, but no stagnation is ever apparent at Kelliher. Mr. and Mrs. Ole HKerguson and Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Johnson, of Cass Lake, came over from the “Lake’” yesterday afternoon and left last evening for Big Falls, where they will look over some land. They may visit In- ternational Falls before they re- turn to Cass Lalke, John Moberg, who has the contract to grade a large portion of the railroad with ~ which Walker & Akeley will log their timber along the Kabekona gulch, came in last night from the scene of his operations. Mr. Moberg states that he already has much- grade ready for the laying of the steel, and that the work is progressing nicely. Always to Be Depended Upon.
