Ernest Fleming, the Bena log- ger and merchant, arrived in the city this morning from Black- jduck, in the vicinity of which place he has been cruising for the past two weeks, looking up some desirable logging contracts for next winter. Mr. Fleming logged east of Blackduck during this winter, and had a very suc- cessful season, despite the ad- verse conditions that prevailed as to logging. Moses Burnham, who had the misfortune to have his arm badly hurt in the lath mill here last Wednesday morning, and who has been 1n the hospital at Be- midji, returned home Monday. His arm is doing nicely. C. F. Rogers has commenced to erect an addition to his store building here. The 1nfant son of Mr. and Mrs. Hlerma.n Timms, is reported very ill. Albert S. Murcay attended the teachers’ convention in Be- midji last Saturday. Orvilie Waldron went to Be- midji Monday, to have hisarm treated. ! Miss Goldieand Mable Lackore spent Saturday and Sunday with their grand parents, Mr. and Mrs, Chilson. Topeka, Kan., April 25.—The state supreme court has appointed Judges Hallen, G. H. Whitcomb and T. F. Garver, all of Topeka, receivers for the property in Kansas said to be worth $250,000 of uine foreign brew- ing companies ana s wholesale whisky eoncern. Six of the .companies are Kansas City (Mo.) concerns and three are Milwaukee firms. The receivers ‘were appointed upon the petition of Attorney General Jackson, who re- cently secured an order from the court restraining the concerns named from doing business in Kansas. The prop- erty involved includes liquors, bar fix- tures, wagons, animals and warehouses gnd is located principally in Topelka, Kansos City, Wichita, Leavenworth, Atchison, Salina, Iola, Galena, Pitts- burg and Columbus, Kan. Since the restraining order was is- gued some of the companies removed part of their property situated near the state line into Missouri and Okla- homa. Attorney General Jackson says what remains will be sold aand the proceeds used to defray the cost of the present suits. The companies that removed thelr property will be cited for contempt. Milwaukee Brewers Will Fight. Milwaukee, April 25.—Representa- tives of Milwaukee hreweries which are parties to the receivership at To- peka assert that they will fight the proceedings to the court of last resort. They claim that the step taken is un- eonstitutional. fflURDEB—(JF MARVIN CHILD Betectives Arrest Suspect on Story of Fellow Workman. Dover, Del, April 25—Frank H. Butler, employed as a deckhand on ¢he steamer John P. Wilson, has been taken into custody charged with the murder of Horace N. Marvin, the four- son of Dr. Marvin, whose dis- nce on March 4 aroused the entire country. The arrest of Butler was made prin- efpally upon a statement given the detectives by a man named Caldwell, who was working with Butler the day the child disappeared. Butler, he says, was ordered to go to the barn and load up wheat screenings in bags. This he did and when Caldwell later entered the barn he found that Butler had loaded three bags on the wagon and a fourth was lying on the floor of the barn.
