Swedback Block; Bemid}i. ‘| malicious campaign being waged about forcing that peace down the throat of Japan. The congressional ‘career of Mr. Hearst of New York, and the legislative career as a state senator of Mr. Jubhnson of Mic- nesota, were strikingly alike. Both were barren and colorless. For the first time in the forty- eight years Minnesota has been a state, the northern section ‘has a candidate for governor, " His election is up to us, and if we don’t give him a majority up this way that will go a long way toward offsetting the slump in the normal republican vote down south, we don’t deserve another chance to elect a northern Mic- nesota governer for many years to come. A NATIONAL ISSUE. Senator Clapp was right when be said that the election of Mr. Cole was, in a sense, a national issue. The country at large is watching the contest in Minne- sota this year. This is a critical time for the republican party. The wide: spread discontent in the ranks over the stand-pat attitude of the leaders has given democracy the idea that a victory for Bryan or Hearst, or whoever it puts up for the presidency two years hence, is going to be an easy matter. A democratic victory in Minne- sota, or New York, or any other normal - republican state, this election is going to add immense. ly to this hope of victory, and is going to act as a powerful siimu- lant to disheartened democracy. Republicans of Minnesota, how aboutit? Can we afford to play with fire in this way? Nonparti- sanship is a fine thing on certain occasions, but there are times when party lines must be drawn tightly, and this is one of::those times. Let us give the republican party in this state and in the United States a magnificent partisan endorsement, THE OUTSIDE VIEWPOINT. The remarkably unfair. and THoS The only fight to be made on; the county ticket at the gereral election for a county office will be for the office of sheriff, and a commissioner for the Third dis- trict. Thomas Bailey, the republican nominee for sheriff, has made an able and competent sheriff, and is the right man for the place, During the past six years he has conducted the office in_an able and efficient manner, and his obliging and courteous ways have won him many friends who will 2o to the polls November 6 and place an “X’’ after his name, the state itself: ‘It isno uncommon thing for big men to have less honor in their own country than abroad, and it sometimes does the home people a world of good to get the, outside view. The Eyes of the Eagle. That the eagle has a most wonderful power of vision is shown from the fact that it flies in almost a straight line for any object which it desires to secure. Baby eagles also possess this farsight- edness. Long before human eyes can discern them thelr'gaze is fixed on dis- tance, and their cries of welcome to their parents are shrill and continuous. The structure of their eyes makes them | peculiarly strong. The brightest glare of sunlight does not affect them. Ea- gles do not fly as high in the air as some other birds, but their flight is very long and steady. A peculiarity about eagles is that they are constant to their mates, not changing every sea- Bon, as most birds do. Sometimes the same 'pair. of eagles will return to the same ‘nest year after year. They seem to become acquainted-with the locality, and if they are not disturbed are regu- lar tenants. NOTICE OF APPLICATION —for— £ _ LIQUOR LICENSE. Stephens by Mr. Kirsch’s brother-in law, who is acting the dual part of political writer for -Mr. Kirsch’s paper, the Crookston Journal, and of democratic candidate for the senate against Mr. Stephens; is attracting attention even in these?: parts. The people up this way are surprised that Senator Stephens should have this kind of opposi-|? tion, and are led to wonder if the Sixty-second district really knows what an influential and all around worthy representative 1t has in the upper house of the legislature, Probably the great majority of his constituents do, but for the benefit of the minority, it -might be just as well to speak out and tell how Senator Stephens stands outside his district. In this Sixty-first district Mr, Stephens is looked upon as one of the big men of the ‘state, one of the few statesmen in the legis. | lature. His remarkable record of achievement in the short time be has been in the senate is un- usual. His rise to a first place in legislative counsels in such a brief time is almost cedented. Who can tell how hard the struggle may have been ero she learnt to resign herself to her lonely lot? The ab- sence -of this link to bind marital life together, the absence of this one pledge to mutual affection is a common disap- ggiutment. Many unfortunate couples ome estranged thereby. Even if they do not drift apart, one may read the whole of such a childless couple when they rest on the children of others, To them the largest family does not seem too numerous. In many cases of barrenness or child- lessness the obstacle to child-bearing is easily removed by the cure of weakness on the part of the woman. Dr. Pierce’s Fa- vorite Prescription has been the means of restoring health and fruitfulness to many & barren woman, to the great joy of the household. In other, but rare cases, the | L obstruction to the bearing of children has been found to be of a snrfiml character, but easily removable bf ga inless operative treatment at the Invalids’ Hotel and Sur- ical Institute, Buffalo, N. Y., over which r. Pierce of the “*Fayorite Prescription” fame presides. In all cases where chil- dren are desired and are absent, an effort should be made to find out the real cause, since it is generally so easily removed by proper treatment. In all the various weaknesses, displace- ments, prolapsus, inflammation and de- bilitating, catarrhal drains and in all cases of nervousness and debility, Dr. Pierce’s Favorite Prescription is the most efficient remedy that can possibly be used, It has to its credit hundreds of thousands of cures —more in fact than any other remedy Fut up for sale thro\lg}:hdr;xgglsts, 4 e in, - especially for woman’s use, gredi- ents of which the “Favorite Prescription is. comy have received the most positive endorsement from_the leadin medical writers on Materia Medica of al the several schools of practice.
