PROHIBITION FOLLY. There is nobody so self-de- structively narrow as the man of one idea, alone. The ‘De fender,” a national prohibition + N | weekly published in New York, === ] is out with a savage attack on Mayor Jones of Minneapolis be- cause, it is alleged, he drinks. The “Defender’’ 'declares that because of this the prohibition party in Minneapolis should con- duct against him “the hottest campaign of the party’s history.” Think of that, anyone who is familiar with the Jones policy and its enforcement! Whether or not Mayor Jones drinks is another question, and nobody’s business but his own. But even if hedoes, the fact remains that Jones has been the best friend the prohibition party has ever had in the Minnesota metropo- lis. He has done more to dis- courage drinking than any other mayor ever did before him. And yet, forsooth, because he takes a drink occasionally, if he really does, this prohibition paper would have the rarty turn and rend him. If the editor of the ¢De- fender” is a fair sample of the leaders in the prohibition party, no wonder that party has never been anything more than a joke O — Ry and & stumbling block in politics. Let the greatest athlete have dysBepsln and his muscles would soon fail. hfsl- cal strength is derived from food. If man hasinsufficient food he loses strength. If he has no food he dies. Food is con- verted into nutrition through the stom- ach and bowels. It depends on the strength of the stomach to what extent food eaten is digested and assimilated. People can die of starvation who have abundant food to eat, when the stomach and {ts associate organs of digestion and nutrition do not perform their duty. Thus the stomach is really the vital or- gan of the body. If thestomach is*weak” the body will be weak also, because it i3 upon the stomach the body relies for its strength.
