BEMIDJI ASSESSMENTS ARE OVER ONE-FIFTH OF TOTAL Oat of the County Valuation of $5,201,217, Bemidiji Con- tributes 1,065,334. There has been a large increase in the value of real and personal property in Beltrami county during the last year. The re- ports of the assessors, returned |y to County Auditor Wilmann, show it to be $566,637. Property values in the county are placed at $5,201,217, while for 1905 they were but $4,334,580. The auditor’s books make an |y interesting study to one inter- ested in the paying of taxes This year the real estate assess- ment is $4,345,98), as against $3,544,101 last year, and the personal property assessment is $870,228, as against $790,479 in 1905. The largest values are found in Bemidji, naturally. In this city the total assessment is $1,- 065,334, over one-fifth of the total valuation of the county, The real estate assessment is $780,- 590, and the personal, $284,744. In Blackduck the real property assessment is $43,695, and the personal, $37,801, in Nymore the real is $46,108, and the personal, $11,062, in Tenstrike the real is $26,853. personal, $25,915, in Turtle the real and personal as- sessments are $15,774and $8,400, respectively, in Funkley, $5,350 and $3,824, respectively. In this city theassessors’ books show some interesting figures. Wagons, carriages, bicycles and sleighs are assessed at §3,045, sewing machmes at $1,555; watches and clocks at $1,188, pianos at $9,600, household and office furniture at $20,700, gold and silver plate and plated ware at $365, diamonds aud jewelry at $995, water craft of all descrip- tions at $1,350, goods and mer- chandise, wholesale at $4,732, retail at $58,155, manufacturers’ materials and manufactured articles, including lumber, at $109,200, manufacturers’ tools and machinery at $8,515; fur- LARGE INCREASE| lniture of saloons and eating houses at $22,085. Nora Harvey, a character well known in police circles, who ar- | rived in the city the other day from Cass Lake, where she had nY just finished a jail sentence, was given five days in the county prison. Grace Olson and Maud Mason, two women dressed in 10 black who have been familiar figures on the streets for two or three weeks, paid fiaes of $4 each and were ordered out of town, 5| Grace Weil and May Coneil also paid $5 fines and prowised to get out of the city limits without o | delay. John Smith was fined for dis- orderly condact, and J. Page, a “bum print,” was escorted to the city gates. The county board of equaliza- tion, which adjourned last Thurs- day after attending to a little vreliminary business, will con- vene again next Monday in the county commissioners’ room at the courthouse. The board has a large amount of work to do and will probably not be able to finish iv up in less than three or four days. NMAAAAANAAANAAA AAAAN Additional Locals- Mark Devine came down this morning from Blackduck and spent the day in the city with friends. C. F. Williams and family ar- rived in the city this noon from Grand Forks and will spend a few days at the head of the lake. The Markham hotel is putting new writing desks in the lobby, greatly improving the looks of the room. The desks are finished in oak. The Norih Star will make a trip to Lake Plantagnet tomorrow leaving the dock at the usual time. Thisis a delightful trip, and allows an hour’s stop at Plantagnet. Death last night’ claimed the three-days-old twins born to Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Harris. The funeral was held this atternoon at the house and services were conducted by Rev. John O’Dwyer. Dr. C. J. Larson, the eye spec- ialist, is now located in the Swed- back block, where he will at all times be prepared to meet his patients. Those whose eyes trouble them should not fail to call on him. The doctor is an experienced eye specialist, thoroughly understanding the ailments of the eye and the treat- ment necessary, ONE ARREST IS MADR. Extensive Wire Tapping Scheme at St. Louis, Bt. Louis, July 21.—Through the ar- rest of Henry Stanley, a telegraph lineman, taken into custody on the charge of being implicated in a wire tapping scheme, the police believe they have brought to light an exten- slve scheme for the stealing of quota- tlons from the Merchants’ Exchange and that wire tappers have been oper- ating in St. Louls for thres months. Stanley 1is the only person arrested so far.
