SUBSCRIPTION $5 PER YEAR The Itasca News solemnly dis- cusses-the question whether Hell is endless or punishment eternal. This doesn’t seem fair, butting in on the ministers; better stick to the tariff, Another state has been added to the Union in the form of Okla- homa and Indian Territory, ad- mitted as one state. Ithas been a hard fight, and a long time in coming, but the people of the two former territories willbeall the better able to govern themselves because of it In state politics the issue is be- coming less and less the platform and more and more the candi- date. Once in a while a great principle lhke the ‘Merger” arises, but when the right has won the state settlas back into indifference and elects the best man regardless of platform. Who this year has read the lengthy enunciation of principles called the republican state plat- form? And who wants to? The house of representatives is at least consistent in voting against the proposition of buying material for the Panama canal in the open markets of the world rather than in the United States exclusively. It will cost millions upon millions more to do it, but if it is a good thing for the pub- lic to be compelled to pay two prices because of a high tariff on trust-made goods, it surely is a good thing for the government to be compelled to do so too. The killing of two firemen in the Ryan hotel fire at St. Paul Sunday calls attention once more to the fact that the men who fight our fires are among the heroes of the land. In the cities where the fireman is paid a decent wage and apparently sits around all day and plays checkers it is quite customary to speak of his job as a snap. But the fact remains that he risks his life, and sacrifices it too, more often than anyother public servant, only excepting the soldier in time of war. Re- call the big fires of the last few years and it will be found that there is scarcely one where one or two or more brave men have not died at the post of duty, either fighting back the flames or mak. 1ng some heroic rescue. S. . is'composed, and the method of com- bining and preparing them so that they gently and pleasantly build up and strengthen every part of the body, make it the ideal tonic for a disordered condition of the system. Every one feels the need of a tonic sometimes. The system seems to get ‘‘out of gear, ”’ the appetite becomes fickle, the energies are depressed, sleep is not restful or refreshing, and the entire body has a nervous, worn-out feeling. When the system is in this depleted, run- down condition it must be aided by a tonic, and S. S. S. is recognized every- where as the standard. Being made entirely of roots, herbs and barks selected for their gentle action as well as their invigorating effect on the system, it will not disagreeably affect any of the delicate members or tissues as do most of the so-called tonics on the market which contain potash or some other harmful mineral ingredient. These derange the stomach and digestion, unfavorably affect the bowels or otherwise damage the health. S. 8. S. tones up the stomach and digestion, improves the appetite, produces refreshing sleep, rids the body of that tired, run-down feeling, and supplies toneand vigor to the entire system. It re-establishes the healthy circulation of the blood, acts more promptly and gives better and more lasting results than any other tonic, and because of its vegetable purity is an absolutely safe medicine for young orold. 8. S. S. acts admirably in cases of dyspep- sia, indigestion and other stomach troubles, and after using it that uncom- fortable feeling of fullness, dizziness or_drowsiness, after eating, are no longer felt. NotonlyisS. S. S. the greatest of all tonics but possesses puri- fying and alterative properties, and if there is a taint in the blood it will promptly remove every trace and restore perfect health. In selecting your tonic for this year do not experiment but get S. S. S., the recognized stand- ard, THE SWIFT SPECIFIC CO., ATLANTA, GA. PROFESSIONAL ..CARDS.. LAWYERS. D. H. If the Symptoms Fit Your Case, Remember “A Disease Once Known is Half Cured.” Feel feverish? Have headache? Back- ache? In fact, “ache all over?” Have occasional chilly sensations? Appetite gone? Tongue furred? Bad taste, espe- cially in morning? Bad, foul breath? orhaps nausea, or “sickmess at stom- ach” occasionally? Feel weak, tired, blue and discouraged ? The above are symptoms common to stomach and liver derangements and often precede attacks of fever and mal- arious affections, grip, bronchitis, and *lung fever,” or pneumonia. ‘Whichever ailment they point to, you may be sure that it is best to get rid of them as soon as possible by putting your system to rights, regulating, toning u and invigorating stomach, liver an bowels, and thus purifying your blood and system and enabling it t0 throw off the aftack. For the above purpose, medical science has as yet produced no better agent than Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical Discovery. It is not a secret, or patent medicine, all its ingredients being printed on the bottle wrapper. It is the prescription of a well- known and experienced physician. It contains no alcohol or other harmful, habit-forming agents— chemically pure, triple-refined glycerine being used both as a solvent and preservative of the med- feinal extracts of which it is composed. t is made from the following native, American medicinal roots: Golden Seal root, Queen’s root, Stone root, Bloodroot, Mandrake root and Black Cherrybark. ‘The medicinal properties of these are ex- tracted by exact and ‘peculmr processes with the ‘use of chemically pure, triple- rofined glycerine, of proper strengtk, and by means of apparatus and appiianchs - devised for this special purpose, and in such a way as to produce a most perfect pharmaceutical compound. As to the superior curative propertics of some of the above ingredients, we can only give room here for a very few af the briefest extracts from standard medical works, but more complete information will be sent you, free of charge, in pam- phlet form, if you will send your address, plainly written on postal card or bfi let- ter, to Dr. R. V, Picrce, Buffalo, N. Y., with a request for the same. Of Golden Scal root Prof. Bartholow, of Jefferson Medical College, says: Ver: useful as a stomachic tonic (stomach tonic) and in atonic (weak stomach) dys- pepsia. D., of New York, we extract the following: “Hydrastis (Golden Seal) ex- ercises an especia,l influence over mucous surfaces. Upon the liver it acts with equal certainty and efficacy. As a chol- agogue (liver invigerator), it has few equals. In affections of the spleen, and abdominal viscera generally, it is an efficient and reliable remedy. Also in scrofula, glandular diseases generally, cutaneous eruptions, indigestion, debility, diarrheea and dyséntery, constipation, piles and all morbid and eritical dis- charges.” Dr. Coe further says: *Hydrastis (Golden Seal) is also of inestimable value in the treatment of chronic derange- ments of the liver. It seems to exercise an especial influence over the hepatic (liver) structure generally, resolving (dis- solving) biliary deposits, removing ob- structions, promoting secretions, and iving tone g) the various functions. It s eminently cholagogue (liver accelera- ton), and may be relied upon for the relief of hepatic (liver) torpor.” _Prof. John M. Scudder, M. D,, of Cine cinnati, says of Golden Seal: Tt stimue lates the digestive processes and increases the assimilation of food. By these means the blood is enriched. * ¥ * «In rela tion to its general effects on the sys- tem, there iS no medicine in use about which there is such genéral unanimit; of opinion. It is wngversally regarded as the tonic useful in all debilitated states.” As to Stone root, the AMERICAN Dis- PENBATORY says: “In diseases of stom- ach and intestines—improves appetite, promotes flow of gastric juice; tonic effect upon organs involved. A good remedy in indigestion, dyspepsia, chronic astritis, increasing the secretion from idneys and skin.” Prof. Finley Ellingwood, M. D., of Bennett Medical College, Chicago, says of Stone root: “In catarrhal gastritic (inflammation of stomach) where the circulation is defective, it, either alone or combined with hydrastis, is of first importance. They inerease the appetite and greatly improve the digestion and assimilation of food. * * Is a heart tonic of direct and permanent influence. Excellent in the bicycle heart, in rheu- matic inflammation and clergyman’s sore throat.” All the other ingredients entering into the composition of “Golden Medical Dis- covery” are cqually praised for their curative effects in all stomach, liver and bowel affections and fiwe of them for bronchial, throat and lung affections attended with severe cough, expectora- tion and kindred symptcms. But you had best read for yourself the “words of praise” written concerning each and every ingredient of this marvel- ously efficacious medicine by leading medical practitioners and writers. This you can do by writing for the booklet mentioned in the preceding column. No other medicine for like purposes has any such professional endorsement as “Golden Medical Discovery,” which should have more weight than all the ordinary testi- monials so lavishly flaunted before the public by those who are afraid to publish their formulm that the search I?gh: of investigation may be turned upon theg. It is well to know what one takes inta the stomach whether in the form of food, drink or medicine. From the same little book of extracts mentioned above it will readily be seen why Dr. Pierce’s Favorite Prescription works such marvelous cures in those chronic and distressing diseases peculiar to women. In all cases of pelvic catarrh with wealkening drains, bearing or “drag- ging-down” pains or distress, and in all monthly or periodical derangements and irregularities, the “Favorite Prescrip- tion” will be found to be made of just the right ingredients to mect and cure the trouble. Your druggist sells the ® FAVORITE PRESCRIPTION” and also the “"GOLDEN MEDICAL DISCOVERY.” Write to Dr. Pierce about your case. He is an experi- enced ghysicmn and will treat your case as confidential and without charge for correspondence. Address him as directed in preceding column, t is as casy to be well as ill—and much more comfortable. Constipation is the cause of many_forms of illness.
