Most editors get 8o used to those threats that they never think of a body guard. A few of the papers which have been shouting that Jacobson’s defeat would mean a corporation controlled nominee for governor, are in a rather embarrassing position. It’s either swallow their words or bolt the ticket. From the painful silence and the faces they are making, they seem to be swallowing. Red Lake county is all excite- ment over a county seat fight be tween Red Lake Falls and Thief River Falls, The latest sensa- tion is a charge that the latter village has been spending money in her effort to get the court- house, buying signatures and bribing voters. The Red Lake Courier demands an investiga- tion. Ramsey county has been freely criticised for splitting up her votes among the several candi- dates for governor instead of coming out and making some good use of her immense strength. She was even hissed for it on the floor of the conven- tion. And yet it was exactly what other counties with favorite sons did. The only difference was that the other delegations were small and did not count for much, anyway, while better things were expected of Ramsey and her sixty-four votes. Not very long ago, a_popular magazine published” an edlcorml article in which the writer asserted, in substance, that all disease should be regarded as criminal. Certain it is, that much of the sickness and suffering of mankind is due to the violation of certain of Nature’s laws. But to say that all sickness should be regarded as criminal, must appeal to evcry reasonable individual as radically It would be harsh, unsympathetic, cruel, yes criminal, to condemn the poor, wealk, over-worked housewife who sinks under the heavy load of household cares and burdens, and suffers from weak- nesses, various displacements of pelvie organs and other derangements peculiar to her sex. Frequent bearing of children, with its ex- acting demands upon the system, coupled with the care, worry and labor of rearing a large family, is often the cause of weak- nesses, derangements and debility which are aggravated by the many household cares, and the hll‘d. Chemist Produces Ten Barrels From One Gallon of Extract. St. Paul, June 16.—The discovery or rather researches of a local chem- ist will no doubt have a farreaching effect on the great brewing industries of this country. This chemist has produced a liquid which by tests proves to be 3,520 times stronger than the best beer. The active principle of this fluid ex- tract contains albuminoids from alphs, bitter hops, and malt 7,440 times the strength of common mall made from the best barley. With the above is combined an article which in contact with hard water produces instanta- neous heat and fermentation, forming 3% per cent alcohol, the amount ex- isting in the best brand of beer. The question of revenue is being discussed with the federal authorities and it is probable that no distiller’s license will be required, as no alcohol is formed until the liquid extract comes in con- tact with the water, A company of St. Paul and Milwau- kee capita.ists will supply the large breweries with the fluid extract for trial. IRON DEPOSIT FOUND. Rockefeller Agents Too Late to Buy Valuable Land. EIk River, Minn., June 16.—A valu- able deposit of iron has been found in the township of Santiago, Sher- burne county, and J. Riley has di posed of his farm for $12,000, nearly half of which has already been paid down. Agents of the Rockefeller interests were down from Duluth and it is said attempted to head off the deal, but found themselves a few days too late. The discovery of the iron is due to the digging of some county drainage ditches in the locality. It is thought there are evidences of a deposit of petroleum there, and a thorough in- vestigation will be made. King Detective Service The largest detective service west of Chica- ! go.
