Ssnator E.'J Swedtack last night autborized the Pioneer to state that he w:s nct a candidate for re-election at the election to to be held next fall. Mr. Swed- back stated positively that h. would not make the run. He gives as his reason for not being a candidate that his time is all taken up with his business affairs. Mr. Swedback was elected from this district in 1908 aud his term expires Jan. 1, 1907, He has made an excellent representative of this section of the state and has always stood for measures that were for the benefit of his district. Chicago, March 30.—A conference was held during the day between Judge Humphrey, District Attorney Morrison and Attorney John §. Miller, representing the packers, regarding the date of the trial of the corpora- tions against which the judge made his recent decision in the beef trust case. The district attorney favored an immediate trial, but Mr. Miller and Judge Humphrey were inclined to ac- cept a date in September. The con- ference adjourned without action to allow District Attorney Morrison to consult the authorities in Washington. Will Be Calico Dance. The grand ball to be given on Easter Monday at the city hall by the police department of the city will be a calico dance and all ladies who attend the affair will ve requested to wear gowns made of that material. Game Warden Rutledge: “I have, of late, received some com- plaints relative to people catch- ing fish withina few feet of dams across streams. in this county.
