CERTAIN employment offices are now fillingorders for men who will be employed on railroad and other work in the western states. The fee, including fare, from Bemidji to Washington, is but $2 aud as a result hundreds of men have already been shipped from this city to the west. - Local merchants have learned of the shipping out of these men and do not feel\ very kindly toward the employment men who are filling these orders. It is but natural that the merchants should feel this way. Thisisthe breakup season of the year, when the men from the woods come to Bemidjiin large numbers and with good sized checks received as a result of their winter’s work. They must have clothing, and the merchants of Bemidji are here to supply their wants. In a large number of cases, however, the employment man, who meets the woodsmen at the depot when they come from the woods, suc- ceeds in sending them away even before they have had time to secure cash for their checks. Loggers and railroad con- tractors are complaining about these employ ment; men, as every man that has been employed in the woods this winter will be needed on the drives and on the railroad work that will be done in this vicinity next summer. The employment man who ships men to the western states at the present time is doing a rank injustice to the merchants of Bemidji as well as to the log- gers and railroad contractors and he cannot expect many favors from these men in the future. He was brought to St. Joseph’s hospital hereyesterday. Attending physicians say his wounds will not prove fatal. UNPRECEDENTED NUMBER OF DEATHS RESULT FROM HEART DISEASE. The fact that 125 persons died recently. in one week in New York City, from heart disease, when the death rate the corresponding week in 1904 was only 56, has given rise to the belief among phy- sicians that New York residents, and American people generally, for that mat- ter, are living too rapidly. - The strain of business and cares attendant on fierce competition and the worry attendant on anxiety to gain wealth are given as an explanation by physicians of the condi- tions which exist to-day. Doctors have established the fact that the nerve forces which control the stom- ach and the heart, are affected by the hurry of men in the daily scramble to bolt their food, in order to quickly resume their exciting careers. Many young men now succumb to heart disease, where 50 years ago, a case was rare when a person under 30 years of age died from this malady. . = Women are also victims. _This is a&- tributed to the manner in"which they worry over socia) engagements, also to over-work. Worry and excitement, to- gether with many nerve shocks which come to all in their daily life, of bustle and hustle, are the principal causes which snap the heartstrings. ‘We Americans, both men and women, are living too fast. We work too hard and worry too much. How can the strain be best contracted and the damage done be quickest repaired? Only by humor- ing and assisting the stomach to act in a more healthy manner. Thus will the blood be enriched, the nerves invigorated and the action of an enfeebled heart strengthened and regulated. Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical Discovery contains j the right ingredients to do this, as will be seen from what eminent medical authorities say of the different -ingre- dients composing it. To make the wealk- ened stomach strong that it may prop- erly digest the food and thus mant- facture rich, red blood. rominent ingredient of the “Golden edical Discovery” is pre-eminently the article needed. The late Prof. John M. Scudder, M. D., of Cincinnati, author of "Specific Medication,” says of it: «It stimulates the digestive processes, and increases the assimilation of food. By these means the blood is enriched. % 7% % % The consequent improvement on the nervous and filandulnr systems are natural results.” He further says : “In relation to its general effects on the system, there is no medicine in use about which there is such general unanimity of opinion. It is universally regarded as the tonic useful in all debilitated states.” THE UNITED STATES DISPENSATORY says of Golden Seal root: “As a local remedy Hydrastis (Golden Seal) has a remarkable effect upon the mucous membranes. Used in_gastro-intestinal (stomach-bowel) catarrhs. * * * * «In its influence upon the nervous system this agent (Golden Seal), has stimulating properties, affecting respira- tion and circulation, imparting tone and increased power to the heart’s action.” Then besides Golden Seal, which, ac- cording to the best medical authorities, stands at the head of all stomach and heart tonics and invigorators, there is Stone root (Collinsonia Canadensis).which enters largely into the composition of *Golden Medical Discovery.”and it is an acknowledged stomach and_ heart tonie— especially superior to all other remedies in valvular and other affections of the heart. The late Prof. Wm. Paine, M. D., of Phila., says in his work on Concen- trated Medicines: . I, not long since, had a patient who was S0 much -oppressed with a valvular disease of the heart that his friends were obliged to carry him up-stairs. He, how- ever, gradually recovered under the infin- ence of Collinsonin (the active medicinal D Golden Seal, a | fi iple of Stone root), and is now at- | Dr. R. tending to his business. Heretofore phy- sicians knew of no remedy for the re- moval of so distressing and so dangerous a malady. With them it was all guess- work, and it fearfully warned the afflicted that death was near at hand. Collinsonin unquestionably affords relief in such cases, and in most instances effects a cure.” “Golden Medical Discovery ” so strongly and faltl_flu_lw represents the active megdi- cinal principles residing in both Golden Seal and Stone root that it can be de- pended upon to produce their combined and best curative effects. It must not, however, be expected to perform miracles. Those who have abused themselves by over-work, and thus invited stomach and heart weakness must not expect a cure from the “Golden Medical Discovery” unless they reform their habits. They must let up on their strenuous labors and not over-tax their brains, nerves or muscles, take rational exercise in the out-door air, and simple food and not too much of it—never gormandizing or overloading the stomach. Get to sleej carly and ‘take plenty of rest in be these improved habits of life t broken-down one may confidently ex- pect relief and cure from the use of that great stomach, nerve and heart tonic and invigorator, “Golden Medical Diseovery.” It is a trite saying that no man is stronger than his stomach. Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical Discovery strengthens the stomach —puts it in shape to make {pl‘e, rich blood —helps the liver and kidneys to expel the poisons from the body and thus cures both liver and kid- ney troubles. If you take this natural blood purifier and tonic, you will assist your system in manufacturing each day a pint of rich, red blood, that is invigo- rating to the brain and nerves. he wealk, nervous, run-down, debilitated condition which so many people suffer rom, is ueunally the effect of poisons in the blood; itis often indicated by pimples or boils :\{)p(‘armg on the skin, the face becomes thin_and the feelings “blue.” Dr. Pierce’s “Discovery " cures all blood humors as well as being a tonic that makes one vigorous, strong and forcefui. The “Words of Praise” for the several ingredients of which Dr. Pierce’s medi- cines are composed, by leaders in all the several schools of medical practice, and recommending them for the cure of the diseases for which the “Golden Medical Discovery ” is advised, should have far more weight with the sick and afflicted than any amount of the so-called “testi- monials” so conspicuously flaunted before the public by those who are afraid to let the ingredients of which their medicines are composed be known.
