It is not at all a sure thing that the brick factory talked of some time ago will be ' located in Be- midji, according to 8. D. Works of Mankato, one of the promoters of the enterprise, who stated last night that Thos. Lowry of Min- neapolis had offered a very good proposition if the plant were lo- cated in Minneapolis. Mr. Works said that Mr. Lowry had agreed to take $12,000 worth of stock in the company and provide a site suitable for the plant. This is what was asked of the peeple of Bemidji, but only $8,000 was COURT GRIND IS STILL ON Jury in Case of Carter vs. Harris Out Yet—Welker Suit on Today. Practically nothing has de- veloped in district court since yesterday but the grind still continues. The case of Chas, S. Carter vs. J. O. Harris, which was started yesterday, - went to the jury shortly after 9 d’clock this morning ‘but up toa late hour this afternoon the jury had returned no verdict and a disagreement is looked for. James Conat, who is accused of arson in the first degree commit- ted by setting fire to the Newton building at Funkley, was ar- raigned this morning and plead- ed not guilty. Today the attention of the court and a jury has been taken up with tbe trial of the case of Wade Welker|ys. the City of Be- _midji, in which the plaintiff wants damages for a broken leg for which he claims the city is re- sponsible. The testimony of the plaiatiff’s witnesses was taken and the defense had started tak- ing testimony at 4 o’clock this af- terncon. It is probable that the case will not go to the jury until tomorrew forenoon. % e AMUSements ... The performance given last night at the City Opera house by Beach & Bowers’ minstrels was largely attended and an excellent bill was presented. The songs were good, the jokes new and the instrumental music furnished by the Beach & Bowers orchestra tine. The show is without doubt the bestattraction of . the char- acter that has visited Bemidji. Food Sale Tomorrow. The annual meeting of the Be- midji Business Men’s club which was to have been held at Masonic hall last night proved a fizzle, sponding to the call which was mailed to each member of the club. Those who were in at- tendance at the meeting, after waiting for some length of time, decided to go home and no busi- ness whatever was transacted. Neither was a date ‘set for any future meeting of the club. CAMPS BURN NEAR HOUPT Clothing Destroyed and Woodsmen Walk to Town, Some Barefooted. | Houpt, March 23.—The, large tie camps, including the cook house, men’s camp, barns, etc., operated near this village by Wicks & Moss, together with all the men’s clothing in the build- ings, burned up yesterday after- noon. The woodsmen were forced to walk partially dressed, some of them without shoes, to Houpt, a distance of four miles. SPEEDING TO DYING HUSBAND Mrs, Sadie Storey of Kelliher Will Be Taken to Nevada on Special Train. Mrs. Sadie Storey of Kelliher passed through the city this morning on her way to Goldfield, Nev.,, in response to a message uunouncing that her husband, James Storey, was dying. Every effort will be made by her to| reach her husband’s bedside be- fore death comes, and a special train will meet her in Minneapolis and take her the remainder of the journey in the shortest pos- sible time.
