A crew of men are at work on the east side ot Lake Bemidji cutting timber which will be used in the construction of the dam which will be built across the Mississippi river four miles east of the lake. The clearing away of trees and other Obstruc- fiiofis at the site of the dam is still in. progress and it is ex- pected that the actual work on the construction of the dam. will be commenced in the near future. Barndt, an employe of the Bemidji Elevator company, while attempting to secure a drink of water through the ice near the Mississippi river bridge in this city, broke through the ice.
