COUNCIL CUTS PAY OF MAYOR AND ALDERMEN. All Bids For Printing Charter and Furnishing Cordwood are Rejected. The city council held a regular meeting at the council chambers last night with seven members present, Aldermen McTaggart and Bowser being absent. The council allowed all bills presented with the exception of one amount- ing to $195.50 claimed by the sheriff of Beltrami county for boarding prisoners during the months of November and Decem- ber, 1905, committed to the county jail by the justices of the| peace of the city. This bill was referred to the city attorney, who will advise the council at its next meeting. The health committee in its report last night recommended the acceptance of a contract with Dr. W. R. Morrison by the terms of which he will act as city physician at a salary of $25 per month, he to give medical and surgical treatmrent to all paupers resident in the city, the city to furnish all medicines. The re- port was adopted and the city attorney was instructed to pre- pare a contract. The health committee was instructed to make a report at the next meet- ing, the report to include some recommendation as to the regula- tion of the city dump grounds. The report of the committee on salaries was adopted after several changes had been made. The salary of the mayor was cut from $300 per year to $150 per year; the salary of the ?lde';‘men‘ was fixed at $10 per year instead $25 per year; and the health commissioner’s salary was raised from $125 to $300 per year. The report as adopted by the council is as follows: Per yr. . 2% per mo. MAYOL: s eaveheeeit oh Alderman at Large Aldermen... ....... City Clerk. . City Treasurer . City Attorn: Assessor.. .. Chief of Poli 5 Patrolman, each... . ... Chiet engineer and janitor. Ass't engineer and janitor. Street commissioner..... . Superintendent of water Health commissioner.... Members board of health...... Clerk Of water board........... 10 All bids for the printing of 50 copies of the city charter, pre- sented at the last meeting of the council, were rejected on recom- mendation of the committee' on printing, which reported that 10 typewritten copies of the charter could be secured for $30. The recommendation for the rejec- tion of the bids was made by the committee for the reason that it will probably be necessary in the near future to amend the charter, so that the expenditure at the present time of several hundreds of dollars would be useless, inas- much as it would be necessary todo the work over again as soon as the charter was amend- ed. > S [ 50 20 houses of ill fame located in the swamp west of the city to take out liquor licenses was. taken up and discussed and the city attor- ney was instructed to investigate the matter. s Sealed bids for furnishing cordwood were received as fol- lows: L. E. Kratzer, birch, oak and maple, $3.50 per cord; Gust Dohrmann, dry jack - pine, $3.00 per cord; Matt Tnome, dry jack pine, $2.75 per cord and dry oak, birch and@ maple, $4 per The matter of compelling the 1 cord.
