Entered in the postoffice at.Bemidji. Minn., as second class matter. SUBSCRIPTION $5 PER YEAR Topay’s issue of the Pioneer marks the beginng of a new management. The purchase of the Pioneer has been made by the present owner purely for business rea- sons. Having an abiding faith d|in the future of Bemidji and this B [ part of the state, and realizing that the Pioneer has been and is the leading paper in northern Minnesota, the purchase of the paper has been made in the be- lief that it is a sound business investment. The new management. has no one to punish, no cliques to serve no: policies to -advocate except such as shall appear to' be those best for the: whole 'people. So far as it lies in the power of the management the Pioneer will henceforth take no sides in ‘mat- ter which are purely factional differences. A newspaper hasa broad mission—it should serve the people and their interestsas a whole, and to do this it cannot be continually helping this and that petty faction in some petty quarrel. The Pioneer will stand clearlyand unequivocally for such general questions of publicinter- est as it believes to be right. but it will do its utmost to discour- age and stamp out cliques and factions in city, county and state. Under the able management of R. W. Hitchcock the Pioneer has been a power in the upbuilding and the advancement of Bemidji and Beltrami county. It has se’ cured and it has deserved the liberal patronage of the business men of Bemidji, of the people of this section of the state and of foreign advertisers. Every ef- fort will be made to merit a con- tinuance and an increase of that patronage. The news service of the Pio- neer has been maintained at a high standard and in this re- spect it is the determination of the new management that the paper shall suffer no set back. A newspaper man of broad ex- perience will be placed in charge of the paper at an early date and :every possible effort will be made and no expense will be spared to make the Pioneer the best coun- try daily and weekly newspaper in Minnesota.
