THE best that can be said of yesterday’s election from the standpoint of the people of this city is that progress has been made. Nearly two years ago the fight for good government and the wiping out of ring rule in Be- midji; was begun. The first election after that fight was be- gun, held in March 1904, re- sulted in an overwhelming vie- fmry for the ring, its majority {being 363 out of a total vote of 1637. Even then the fight made for - right principles compelled 1 Is one of the Four Railway and Com- mercial Centers of the Northwest Bemidji :2.m offers unparalelled opportunities for Business and Manufacturing Minnesota has such Railway and Shipping Facilities. The Pioneer is disappointed but not discouraged. Its candi- dates have been defeated but the progress which the pecpie of| Bemidji have made is in itself a great victory and the day is not far distant when the enemies of good government in Bemidji shall be completely routed. i iThe City Administration. BeMipJ1 will begin business as {a city next Tuesday evening. For two years this paper has labored earnestly to bring about | city organization and the con- | summation of its efforts in suc- icess is naturally very gratifying. Under the new charter the executive branch of the ecity government will have little to do with the administration of the city outside of complete responsi-~ bility for the policing of the city. That the city will be as efficiently — |policed as in the past we are \assured, and the outcome of yes- terday’s election also guarantees the same election abuses that Iha\'e marked every election in | Bemidji in the past. | The new board of aldermen will be the first really represent- ative body that Bemidji bas ever had, its members being elected {from the different: wards of the city and thus representing all portions of the city. = W.
