Says, “Nothing to Say.” \ Late yesterday afternoon County Attorney McDonald telephoned the saloons of the city instructing them that hereafter they must live up to the letter of the state law—close their places of business at 11 _o’clock nights and all day on Sunday. Most of the saloons complied with the order last night, al- though it is said that some did not. What the county attorney’s reasons are for the stepis every- body’s guess. Most people ap- pear to think that it is a move in the political game, another effort to whip the saloon men into line for the approaching municipal election. others think that the saloon men are tired of working and have done it all themselves, ete., ete. Wheelock & Hawkes, “the man catchers”, this morning opened a branch employment office at Cass Lake. Theofficeis situated in the Scandia Hotel and Andrew Erickson of this city is in charge’ as manager. Mr, Hawkes has been at Cass Lake today opening the office. The firm has orders for about 5,000 men already booked and orders for three times that number will be re- ceived during the season. Em- ployment for any number of men can bg furnished at once. Kecently he wrote to his wife admitting his guilt, and asking her to hush the matter up for the sake of his children. : i Harry Grove to Marry. Harry Groveof Ripple, who' has spent the past two days in Bemidji and who returned home |’ last night, will marry Miss Ella Button,' formerly of this city, on | Oct. 26. The ceremony will occur at the home of Miss Button’s parents at Ripple. Mr. Grove and Miss Button are well' known to many people of Bemidji and both |- have many friends who will ex- tend congratulations. Used Profane Language. A woodsman who gave his name as Blondo appeared before] Judge Skinvik this morning charged with having used ' pro- fane and indecent language in the presence of ladies and child- ren.
