Official Paper Village of Bemid| By R. W. HITCHCOCK. - assecond class matter. Dunn’s Boom. A GooD many influential papers of the state are advocating the renomination of Robest C. Dunn as the republican candidate for governor next year. They are | led to this step by reason of the fact that one by one time has utterly disproved the lies which Dunn’s opponents circulated about him in the last campaign. The timber trespass cases peter- ed out utterly when they were brought into court and the state| is pursuing Dunn’s method as the only reasonable method to adopt in these cases, the mineraj J |leases scandal is declared by the courts to be no scandal but per- fect right and proper, the animus of the jobbers and 'their paid traveling men in the action of the state hoard of equalization in reducing the twin city assess- ment on goods and merchandise nearly two million dollars. Al- most every charge made against Dunn has been shown to be ab- solutely baseless; time will show that all of them were groundless. Nevertheless we cannot believe that Dunn’s candidacy would be politically expedient, The man ought to be governor of Minne- sota, but right has little to do with politics. THE statement of Mr. C. H. Miles that the trouble with Be- midji is too much factionalism hits the nail squarely on the head, The saloon men of this city have the opportunity now. to put an end to this factionalism forever. They have but to join with the business men in the election of a mayor and other municipal officers who are repre- sentatives of no faction and who stand for nothing but the pros- perity of the city and the thing is done. Will they embrace the opportunity? If they doa new era of prosperity will dawn Nov- ember 7 for this city. THE insurance investigations in New York will only enable us to “‘get” the New York state leg- islature we shall be able to for- give and forget all the sins of the insurance companies. Few more corrupt bodies ever existed than the legislature of the state of New York; its members have for years sold themselves and the rights of the people of the state to the highest bidder. Everybody knows it, but nobody has been able te prove it. It looks as though the insurance in- vestigation may yet have the leg- islators on the spit. Flag Days. The following will be observed as Flag Days in the Bemidji Publig schools for the ensuing year. The janitor is directed to display the flag as indicated and teachers by means of suitable exercises and familiar tafks will impress the significance of flag days upon the minds of the pupils.
