THE Blackduck American sug- gests that in connection with the August meeting of ~the old settlers at Blackduck in 1906 a county fair be held. The suggestion is a good one and the Pioneer wishes to make a further suggestion along the same line. The business men of ’Bemldji and of the other villages Iof the county should - unite to raise a fund which will make it gather together the resources of the county, which can be shown at the county fair at Blackduck and later taken to the state fair. Any money spent by the business men of the county tc secure such a -display will be more than repaid them. We believe that Beltrami county should have an exhibit at the state fair second to none. Such an exhibit for a few years will do a great deal toward removing the impression that this is a sandy, pine grown country fit for noth- an exhibit of ' |ing after the timber has been removed. In connection with a county fair an exhibit could be prepared that would astonish and enlighten the thousands who visit Minne- sota’s great fair. The Pioneer is willing to giye hberé,lly toward such an enterprise and we be- lieve that every business man in the county will realize that the matter is one of the first im- portance, CONGRESSMAN Buckman ap- pears to have distanced the field already in the sixth district. Few men who have been candi- dates for oftice have been more lied about than Buckman. One | by one, even to the state timber whopper, he has disproved the canards that have been circulated against him and he is stronger in the sixth district today than ever before, JorL P. Did our boys ever notice that? Well, it is much the same with boys. A boy who walks right up to and with his work—keeps abreast with his duties has a much more pleasant time than the boy who is always lageging to the rear. A boy must in some shape or other, do his share, and if he persists in poking along whenever the eye of the in- structor is on something else, he musb be made to trot to catch up with the fast even walker who finds his work easy and pleasant because he never allows it to get ahead of him. Take a lot of boys together and the fellow who tries to do the least has much the hardest time of any. The boy who has the easiest time is the one who peels off his coat and starts right in with the deter- mination of doing well and promptly the work that is as- signed to him to do.
