Ruling of Department of Interior Is That Previous Squatter Has No Right. One of the most valuable as well as beautiful tracts of land thrown open for settlement at Cass Lake this morning is that upon which is located the White City, across an arm of Leech Lake from Walker. This land is included in that portion of the Chippewa reservation for which there is now a line of people in front of the doors of the Cass Lake land office waiting to file upon, and it is almost certain that it will be taken. P. H. McGarry, who promoted the building of the city and who since that time has spent a large part of his time upon the land, will lose all title to both land and Low Rates to Street Carnmival, | Superior, Wis, On account of the street carni- val at Superior, Wis., August 14 to 19 1905, the Great Northern Railway is selling tickets at re- duced rates. A FAMOUS REMEDY buildings because of a ruling of the department of the interior which provides that in order to obtain land by “squatting” upon it a person must not ‘‘squat’’ up- on the land he desires to secure until the doors of the land office are opened to take filing for the land. Tt is claimed that Mr. Me- Garry isa ‘‘squatter’ on the land which contains the White City, and will therefore lose all title to it. “Squatters’’ are numerous all over the lands thrown open for settlement. They have gone out into the woods and waited at cor- ner posts of the land they wish to secure in company with two wit- nesses, ready to step upon the the land as soon as the land office doors were opened, thus obtain- ing a right to file upon the land before those who wait at theland office.
