SUBSCRIPTION $5 PER YEAR Big Thing for Drainage. THE drainage convention atf Crookston was & big thing. It attracted the presence of the leading men of the state and the delegates included many mem. bers of the legislature with num- erous representation from south- ern Minnesota. * The convention did a great deal to teach Minnesota that drainage is not a sectional question but a policy as wide as the state. When Minnesota comes to understand this fact, we shall have a million dollar appropriation and have it quick. A little convention incident il- lustrated the character of the question of drainage so striking- ly that it is worth repeating. Some southern delegate ex- plained how the farmers of his county had gone down into their own pocket books and paid them- selves for the drainage of their lands. He thought the owners of swamp lands everywhere throughout the state should do the same. A delegate from a northern county replied that it pleased him to secure thisex- n\ pression of opinion from the gen- M\ | tleman from the south, He him- io’; iééé@&é&&éé?é&&‘é&i—i&i—ié&g j N N ?u" Our Facilities i m fom{PLUMlilNG ;": W of [ALL KINDS I"Q: W & are Unexcelled. The Fairbault county man should drain his lands and the Beltrami county man should drain his lands and the state should drain its lands, It seems that weall believe alike about the matter. When we have had a few more drain- age conventions like the oneat Crookston this week southern Minnesota will awake to a know- ledge of this fact.
