But it is only the man get other fellow’s customer.’ False Rumors Do Harm. SoME twenty years ago a false report was sent out on Honey, claiming that this article was made of glucose and forced into combs made of paraffine. This rumor did untold injury to the honey industry and has been proven a ‘‘fake.” The old story is still in circula- tion, passes through that devious orbit which begins with the syndicate, passes to the Sunday special, finds its way to the pat- ent insert, is repeated by more rcputable weeklies, taken up ngain on its syndicate course. For years it appears there has been a standing cffer of $1000, for any horey of this character. In the nature of things, neither paraffine combs or glucose filling can be prepared and sold at the price at which actuil honey can be furnished. Liquid honey. separated from the combs is sometime adulterated, bat any bee keeper is aware that it is im- possible by artificial means to counterfeit the disposition of honey in the comb, as made by the ingenious and busy, but non- adulterating bee. Thousands of dollars are lost annually by the manufacturers of pure food products through the circulation of false and mali- cious reports. For the last year or two, there has been circulated stories about the poisons that are used to adulterate and male cheaper the different products that are packed in cans and packages and consumed every day by the American people. Just because a few dislonest manufacturers have adulterated foods, sensational stories are printed that do harm to all food manufacturers of the nation. To show how absured these reports are, especially those regarding goods, Government Chemists Prof. H. W. Wiley, says “that the general character of canned vegetables is high, also that the use of preservatives in all canned foods has almost en- tirely ceased.” As a matter of fact, Govern- ment statistics show that 98 per cent of the canners of this coun- try have never used preserva- tives. The housewife who buys any advertised brands of a reput- able concern, will find the goods absolutely pure and healthful, Now-a-days when you pick up the daily paper, you often read articles with a heading some- thing like this, ‘Poisoned by canned goods.” Mrs. Smith was taken sick, the Doctor said she was poisoned. The family re- member(d that they had had canned goods the night before. Therefore the poisoning was laid to the canned goods and the re- port circulated and printed in the newspapers that poison was found. Then, after investigating the matter, it was found that Mrs. Smith’s trouble was caused by something entirely different, but nevertheless tne report had LA small investment 1n makes you a “'good seighbor” he best investments and pavs g esdens i SoGro But when you paint---buy only NOUSE m’ 1 able reasom wh reason ‘honest paint '\um e "'u £ o Pun; '.nox{é.'m-.,.& % good. ugl:%gn': b i b 1 he dealer’s bartel, not from | acd Daitk can The paing e neced o 2o Jo galon. s KINLOCH PAINT, and oo that i re tor every the value and bnuly of your property and 'y fiffi.fi;‘:"’ s ncighbrhood.
