THE suggestion made by a citi- zen in these columns some days ago that the- Business Men’s Club take up the matter of pro- perly advertising Bemidji as a summer resort is a timely one. This is one of the most valuable assests which Bemidji possesses and there can be little doubt that with systematic advertising the number of summer visitors and pleasure seekers who come to Bemidji can bé doubled and treb- bled every year until the city be- comes one of the most famous resorts in the country. Bemidji has no other asset upon which it can realize so quickly and abund- antly. It has ‘been aptly remarked that Bemidji’s vices haye been very thoroughly advertised and that it is now time that an earn- est effort be put forth to adver- tise our yirtues. The Bncycle. A few years ago everyone was bicycle mad. Everyone that could scrape together seventy flve or a hundred dollars bought a bicycleand rode at every op- portunity all over the city and all through the country. The bicycle craze was a good thing. It did not cost the indi- vidual much money and it gave him, body and mind, a great deal of most healthful excercise. But it was a craze and had its day. The automobile craze is upon us now. but few individuals can afford the automobile—few indi- viduals, comparatively, will ever be able to afford the automobile, eyen though the years tocome bring about the inevitable reduc tion in price. There are very few individuals indeed who cannot afford a bicy- cle, Bicycles are now cheap— $10 to $25 will buy a good one, that will give pleasure, recrea- tion and health, Dor’t be satisfied with seeing the same little bit of ground every day. Get a bicycle and circulate. ALL signs go to show that there will, within the rext year or two, be a considerable reduec- tion in the rates charged by the ‘‘old line” companies for life in. surance. The rates which have obtained, it has been abundantly proved by the Equitable disclos- ures, and will doubtless be more fully shown in the near future, have been so high as to pile up 1n the hands of the officers of the (companies enormous surpluses which have been used, not for the benefit of the policy holders, but for the enrichment of the officials of the companies. The policy holders prefer to invest for themselves the great po1tion of the margin over the actual cost of insurance and a reduction in rates, due to recent disclosures, is inevitable. fmportant Memonnd m e A small investment in paint adds greatly to the value and Beauty of your propeny and enakes you 3 “'good nrghbor” by making a good neighborhood: Good painting it one of the best invesmens nd paye b revarns o improved values. 1 aving, 0ot an expente.
