Marie Anderson, nee Hicks, the famous window smasher who arrived in the city yesterday from Crookston, was sent away to Duluth on the midnight train last night, where she will be cared for by the Sisters of St. Benedict until the state board of control takes her in charge. Marie stated to the authorities here that she was trying to break Lerself of the morphine habit, to which she has heen addicted for many years past, and as a result was in a very nervous condition and when excited might start on a window smashing tour at any moment. While waiting at the depot for County Health Officer Blakeslee, who purchased her ticket to Duluth, she evidenced symptoms of nervousness, and, turning to an officer who was guarding her at the station, she said that ““if that man don’t get here with the ticket pretty soon I’ll break every window in his office.” Dr. Blakeslee ar- rived in a few moments and Sent the woman away rejoicing. While in charge of the state hoard of control once before she was en- gaged as a stenographer and in a fit of insanity one day took her typewriter and threw it through the window near which she was working.
