THE Wadena Pioneer Journal is throwing a fit over the candi- dacy of Senator A. D. Stephens for governor, The occasion of the Journal’s fit is the banquet tendered Senator Stephens by the citizens of Crookston on his return from the legislature. At that banquet was present Col. R. A. Wilkinson, solicitor general of the Great Northern railway, a resident of Crookston and the Owner of a big stock farm near that city. Among other repre- sentative citizens Col. Wilkinson was invited to speak at the ban quet and in the course of his re- marks he said that much of the hostility being shown towards the railroads was preventive ol progress. This, in its haste, the Pioneer Journal thought was treason; likewise, in its panic, the_ Pioneer Journal thought Senator Stephens said it. Hence its fit, Anyhow Senator Stephens is not a candidate for Governor. Mosr of the talk about har- mony in the republican party nowadays comes from the bolt- ers of last November.
