N W00 Captured North of Staples and Now Confined in Cass County. Jail. PEOPLE MUCH FRIGHTENED AT HIS ANTICS. Wild and Pitiable Specimen of Humanity Without Home or Friends. Considerable excitement was caused at Walker Tuesday by the appearance of a mullatto or half breed who was taken from the M. & I, train and in charge of an officer. He had been wandering so long without proper food and raiment that his | appearance gave him the appear- ance of a desperado rather than of a human being and conse- quently he was given a wide berth. He was picked upata small place about twenty five miles north of Staples in Cass county, by Constable Bickford. In con- versation stated that the man had been seen in that vicinity for overa week and his antics had fright- ened anumber of the settlers. A number of - people had report- ed seeing him: he would come to the edge of the timber and when any advance was made to him he would -disappear, and no more would be heard from him until he was seen at some other point, He was finally taken by sur- prise in an old shanty where he had gone for shelter. TFood was offered him at the time he was captured, and he ate quite heart- ily. Suspicion as to his identity and as to his being an escaped patient from some asylum arises from the fact he has several jackets with him, such as are usually used in asylums. An effort is being made to establish his identity and awaiting the out- come he is being cared for at the county jail Senator Swedback Home. Senator Swedback returned last night from St. Paul where he has spent the winter attend- ing the session of the legislature. Easter Hints. The proposition is now past all experimental stages and is oper- ating in a most successful man There have been several installations made all of which have proven highly satisfactory and accomplished even more than the inventor claimed for them, was the equipping of the boiler atthe Grand Rapids Electriclight- ing plant.
