McDonald went to Cass Lake this afternoon to appear for the plaintiff in the case of James Hirchay vs. Archie Fullerton, deceased. John Lank .of Nebish arrived iin the city yesterday and left this afternoon for Cass Lake on business before the United States land office in that city. Business Manager C. Some ninety pupils are now enrolled at the school and there would be more were it not for the grandfathers who are the greatest obstacle in.Indian edu- cation. Mrs. Daniels and Miss Webster are the day teachers and are securing good results, Each day in the school room is alternated with a day devoted to industrial work and results show that the children are making good progress in each line. COUNCIL TURNS DOWN PETITION Refuses to Appoint Chas. D. i Fisk Justice in Place of Judge Reynolds. A regular meeting of the city council was held last night at the city hall and the petition of Chas. | D. Fisk, signed by the attorneys and judges of the city, was read. Upon deliberation in the matter it was decided by the members of the council to take np action, as less than g month now inter- venes before the spring election will be held, at which time the people will have an apportunity to chose from a dozen different men. Arthur Purnell, the man in- jured two weeks ago in a stove explosion at the Great Northern round house in this city, has de- cided to institute a suit for damages against the company for ‘the loss of his eyesight. Mr. Purnell claims that he is entirely blind in his left eye while the other optic is also injured. He will leave for St. Paul tomorrow |% morning to get his eyes exam- " |ined by an expert optician, and after this has beon doue a suit against the company will be in- stituted in the district court of | Beltrami county.
