THOMAS BAILEY, Sheriff. The board of county commis- sioners metat the court house at eleven o’clock this morning and organized by electing A. W. Dan- aher chairman, Mr. Danaher re- ceiving three votes to two for Joseph Wagner. The new board consists of Wes Wright, first district; George Gunderson, sec- ond district; F. O. Sibley, third district; Joseph Wagner, fourth district; A. W. Danaher, fifth distriet. The bonds of the various coun- ty officers were approved and ad- journment was taken until after- noon. At four o’clock this afternoon no further business had been transacted beyond fixing the salary of the county attorney at $1200. The new county officials are J. O. Harris, register of deeds; John Wilmann, auditor; J. J. Regan, superintendent of schools and Dr. E. H. Marcum, coroner. Those who hold over for an- other term are Thomas Bailey, sheriff; M. A. The marriage of Frank Payne to Miss Rosana C. Stark, which was celebrated in this city yes- terday afternoon. Rev. J. B. Smith officiating, ended a rather exciting matrimonial experience for the happy parties who are now man and wife, and who make their home at Ballclub, It has been a well known fact to the people of that city that a feeling akin to love existed between the two young people, but the objec- tion of the parents of jthe young lady sought to put an end to any matrimonial advances on the part of the young man. Last Friday, however, Miss Stark left | Ballclub ostensibly on a visit to relatives at Deer River. She took the train, but instead of stopping at Deer River, she came directly to Bemidji. Immediate- ly after her departure it became necessary for Mr. Payne to take a business irip to Cass Lake, but he also failed to alight from the train in that city and came on through to Bemidji. REGAN, - Superintendent of Schools. as a special favor that inquiry be made at the postoffice for a letter addressed to the prospective groom, and he stated confident- ially that the letter contained a “| mrrriage license sent from the clerk of court at Grand Rapids. The postoffice was closed and the letter could not be secured until |yesterday forenoon, when the 'document was extracted from the letter, afterwards being placed in the hands of Rev. Smith, who made the young cou- ple man and wife. They return ed to Ballclub last night and will make an effort to subdue the wrath of the happy bride’s par ents. Both the young people are well known in that city, Miss Stark being the postmistress. TOWNSITE IS PURCHASED Deal Closed This Morning For Purchase of Claim of Peter Becker. M. D. Stoner this morning clos- ed a deal with Peter Becker whereby C. A. Smith becomes owner of the claim of Mr. Becker, which is located 18 miles north- west of the city on the line of the new Red Lake railway. The work of platting the new town, says Mr. Stoner, will commence in the near future and the sale of lots will immediately follow. For the present the railway company will own all the townsites along the line of the railway but artic- les of incorporation are being prepared for the organization of a townsite company which will handle the townsites. The grand ball given last night at the city hall by the Bemidji fire department was one of the most successful as well as enjoy- able occasions of its kind ever given in the city. The dancing commenced somewhat earlier than the usual time, music being furnished by the Bemidji or- chestra, and was kept up until an early hour this morning. Sup- per was served at the Grill res- taurant. The proceeds will go into the general fund of the de- partment. % Dissolution of Partnership.
