WILL 5008T DRAINAGE Senator Swedback Will Make Effort to Secure Appro- priations From State. MUCH SWAMP LAND IN NORTH- ERN MINNESOTA. Mr. Swedback Says State Receives Benefit—and Should Pay for the Ditches. “At the coming session of the legislature,” says Senator E. J. Swedbacik of Bemidji, ‘‘a number of bills wili be introduced, which if they pass, will provide addi- tional funds for the drainage com- mission and it is thought they will have the hearty support of all northern members, and in fact nearly all are pledged to sup- port these measures. I am heartily in favor of drainage and always have been, "but its abso- lute necessity to northern Min- nesota had not been so vividly impressed upon me as during my trip to Ripple—and through the northern portion of northern Beltrami county. “It is safe to say that in the vicinity of Kelliher there are thousands of acres of worthless swamp lands which the expendi- ture of a few hundred dollars would transform into the best of agricultural lands and would im- mediately be settled by thriving farmers. “In many sections in the large swamps north of Northome the swamps are covered by surface water and all that would be neces- sary to drain them would be to dig shallow ditches. This is also true of many swamp districts in Beltrami county. The expense of constructing shallow ditches is less, of course, than the dig- ging of deeper ones, which is necessary in some sections, and it may be said with comparative safety that a large amount of work in this line will be done next year, “Iforone will boost every- thing that pretains to drainage and in this expect to have the hearty co-operation of all the members of the legislature from northern Minnesota.” Mr. A. R. Kane, a prominent druggist of Baxter Springs, Kansas, says: ‘“Chamberlain’s Stomach and Liver Tablets are, in my judgement, the most su- perior preparation of‘anything in use today for constipation. They are sure in action and with no ten- dency to nauseate or gripe. For sale by Barkers Drug Store. PRINCESS Grocery Co.
