The political situation in Color- ado is the observed of all obsery- ors. Adams, democrat, was elected on the face of the returns by 11,000 majority, but Governor Peabody, republican, says it is a false countenance, and that he, himself, is the really, truly gov- ernor elect With the able as- sistance of the republican legis- lature and the republican su- preme court Peubody is ‘busy making over the face of the re- turns. Peabody says the demo- crats stole those eleven thousand votes and even more, and Adams says the republicans are trying to steal the governorship. These thingsare but milk and water compared to what the rest of the state is saying. Some of the people of Colorado are great thieves. - We have the word of all of the people of Col- orado for it. We are pretty far away to say whether republicans or democrats are right, but this much is tolerably certain—the republicans will never prove they are right by continuing in office by force of might. THERE is something most queer about the argument of our Minneapolis friends who are out to beat Senator Clapp. They de- clare that they have him beaten al- ready and that they are for no- body but Judge Gilfillan and that they are waiting to endorse Judge Gilfillan until they are as- sured he has sufficient strength. Funny, isn’t it? EvERY legislative session has its full quota of freak legislation. There has been enough of this sort proposed already to keep the Minnesota legislature busy until the middle of next summer, The latest 1s a proposed bill making it a misdemeanor for a landlord to refuse to rent.a house to a family having children. The author of the bill says that he is a public philanthropist—he de- clares that when a landlord ex- cludes families with children he [is simply putting a premium on race suicide. WE WONDERED what we would do when we got the governor elected and then we wondered what we would do when we got the speaker elected and now we wonder what we will do when we get the senator elected.
