BUSY MEET - OF COUNCIL Gty Dads Last Night Trans- act Much Business Im- portant to City. PURCHASE OF WATER. HOSE SUBJECT OF DISCUSSION. New Fire Alarm System is Con- sidered—Other Matter is Discussed. : Although nothing was done re- garding - the purchase of .the right of way: for the new Red Lake railway, the council meet- ing last night was one of the most imporbant held for some time past and various matters of utmost importance of the city were brought up for discussion. The minutes of previous meet- ing were read and accepted after which the counecil accepted the appointment of J. M. Sines as deputy scavenger. Mr. Sines will act until Jan, 1, when the term of the present officer, H. J. Smith, expires. The bid of W. S. Nott to fur- nish 1000 feet of additional fire hose for the city was discussed at length. The bid was received upon solicitation and was read by the recorder. While admitting the urgent need of the hose, some of the members of the body felt that it would be wise to in- vite competition before purchas- ing the hose, as previous ex- perience had led them to believe that the hose proposition was of utmost importance to the city and that an effort should be made to secure the best possible grade at the least money. No action was taken inthe matter but it is probable that at the next regular meetthg of the council the purchase will be made. Mayor Ludington brought up the fire alarm matter and said he had received many letters fiom firms handling fire alarm sys- tems. Little comment was eli- cited from the members of the council, however, but the general sentiment expressed seemed to to indicaté that they were of the opinion that a system was neces- sary and it is possible that action will be made to provide one ‘in the near the future. The sub- ject will again be brought up at the next meebmg of the council. WOULD TAKE BOY TO DULUTH Sisters of St. Benedict Want Moran Boy to Attend ‘School in That City.
