The Business Men’s club, or ganized less than a year ago, has several times proved a substan- tial blessing to the Gity. Partic. ularly is this so in the matter of securing the extension of the Red Lake railway to this city. It is true that the club did not move in the matter originally, neither was it essential to the success of the matter that the club have it in charge, for the business men of the city are fully alive to the advantages which the road will bring to Bemidji and would doubtless have brought the mat- ter to a successful conclusion, had the clubnever existed. Nev ertheless the club was a very convenient channel through which to conduct the negotiations and its efforts have assisted very materially in bringing the matter to so favorable a conclusion. No Trowx will become a good business center, pertinently re- marks the Crookston Times, so long as its merchants rely on a few merchants to bring trade to town. Too often the men in a few lines of trade are about the only ones that reach out after custom. Other merchants wait until these men induce the peo- ple to come toa town and content themselves with trade that natur- ally drifts to thair place. A pub- lic spirited man should ask him- _|self if he is doing his part to at- tract people to come to town to trade in helping the entire busi- ness community, and no town is a success unless all lines are working to extend the trade as far as possible and trying to bring a lal‘gér territory in the circle in which the town is the business center. MAKES SUCCESSFUL FLIGHT. Baldwin Airship Soars Above World’s Fair Grounds. St. Leuis, Oct. 26—An aeronaut in the aiiship of T. C. Baldwin of Los Angeles, Cal, caused intense excite- ment at the world’s fair grounds dur- ing the day by suddenly appearing over the Transportation building at a height of about 1,000 feet. ie presence of the airship was not by the majority of the world’s isitors during the flight from the aeronautic course to the main part of the exposition grounds, a distance of abcut one mile, but the fact of the flight being made soon attracted the attention of thousands and the flight of the airship was greeted with con- tinued cheering. The Baldwin airship is constructed along the lines of the popular concep- tion of a flying machine. The buoy- ancy is secured by'a large cigar shaped balloon and the car, which is long and narrow, is suspended from the balloon by many wire ropes. The motive power is secured by means of two . large propellers or wings, one on each side of the car, run by a compact motor, located at the stern. Knabeshue brought the airship to the ground in St Louis, a distance of about eight miles in a direct line from the starting point. He landed easily and the balloon and machinery are not injured, it'is stated. KEMPF CASE COMES UP. Plaintiff Protests Against a Change of Judges. Milwaukee, Oct. 26.—The case of John J. Kempf, candidate for state treasurer on the La Follette Repub- lican ticket, who resigned and later instituted proceedings to prevent his name from being dropped from the ticket, came up before Judge Williams in the superior court during the day. Kempf's attorney objected to proceed- ing with the case on the ground that he had not agreed to the stipulation for the removal of the case to Judge Williams’ court. The case was previ- ously before Judge Tarrant in the cir- cuit court. Judge Tarrant.js now try- ing a criminal case and it is not prob- able the case will be finished in time to take up the Kempf case. As Mon- day is the last day for filing nomina- tions with the secretary of state it is not thought possible that the case can be disposed of unless the attorneys of both sides can agree on stipulations as to some other court. Kempf's friends are jubilant over the outlook. ONE DEAD, ONE INJURED. Boiler of Threshing Machine Engine Explodes. Valley City, N. D, Oct. 26.—John Dundeen of Akeley, Minn., was brought here from McHenry and placed in the hospital with both legs broken below the knees as the result of a threshing engine explosion near that place. Henry Eiller, a farmer driving a team in a field nearby, was struck by fiying pieces of the engine and killed. Use “Pillsbury’s Best” Flour Flour! Flour! TED L IBNLBUU Columbus, Ohio, May 19, 1903, Some four years ago I was suffering from impure blood and a general run- down condition of the system. I had no appetite, was losing flesh, and had an all- gone tired feeling that made me misera- ble. I began the use of S. S. S., and after taking seven or eight bottles my skin was deare§ of all eruptions and tookona ruddy, healthy glow that assured me that my blood had been restored to its mor- mal, healthy condition. My appetite was restored, as I could eat anything put be- fore me, and as I regained my appetite Iincreasedin weight, and that “‘tired feel- ing” which worried me so much disa peared, and I was once again my old self, I heartily recommend S. S. S. as the best blood purifier and tonic made, and strongly advise its use to all thosein need of such medicine, VICTOR STUBBINS. Cor. Barthman and Washington Aves, Wheeling, W. V., May 28, 1903, My system was run down and my joints ached and pained me considerably. Thad used 8. 8. S. before and knew what it ‘was, so I purchased a bottle of itand have taken several bottles and the aches and pains are gone, my blood has been cleas- ed and my general health built up. Ican testify to it as a blood purifier and tonic. 1533 Market St. Jomx C. STRIN.
