For the fourth successive time Minnesota wins the butter scor- ing contest and thereby estab- lishes its right to be known as the banner butter state of the Union. Minnesota has made its remarkable butter record at the world’s fair in the face of the most active competition from the othar great butter states of the nation. The repeated prizes which the state has. won for its butter establish the fact beyond contest that Minnesota makes the best butter in the world. TaE further we get from the recent primary election the more clear does it become that the pri- mary election law in its present form is underminingall party organization. The weaker party suffers first, as was shown in the primary election two years ago and still more plainly this year, but the stronger party suffers just as surely. It begins to be evident that the primary election law is going to have an effect uever dreamed of by its fram- ers—if it radically amended it will revolu- tionize our present political sys- tem. If the evolution were for the better, all would be well, but it is plainly shown that corrup- tion in politics was only in its in- fancy under the convention sys- tem compared with the condi- tions under the primary law. IN THER mud slinging cam- paign against the republican state ticket the democaats have become fairly crazed and utterly desperate when they view the hopelessness of their vile tac- tics. Even John Lind yields to the necessity of the situation and personally villifies Mr. Dunn, This campaign hasdemonstrated, as has no other how utterly uufit the democratic party is to be placed in position of responsi- bility. JoHN A. JOHNSON said many times before he became a candi- date for governor that Robert C. Dunn was the best state auditor, nay more, the best state official, that Minnesota ever had. Now that'he wants to beat Mr. Dunn for governor he says very differ- ently. When was he telling the truth? When he was disinter- ested or when he was inter- ested? ANENT the abuse heaped upon the republican candidate for gov- ernor by the democrats and the mugwumps, J. Adam Bede re- marks that no one but the farm- ers ever made any money by running things into the ground. Up TO the time he became a candidate for governor Robert C. Dunn was the most prized man in all the state. Today, to listen to the democrats you would think he isalmost as bad asa Tam- many democrat. IT MUST be that the Baltic fleet fired on those defenseless English fishing vessels just to see if there was not something a Russian war vessel could sink. — For Sheriff. I hereby announce myself as candidate for the office of sheriff, subject to the will of the voters of Beltrami county at the general election to be held on Tuesday November & 1904. If elected I promise to discharge the duties of the office in a careful, painstaking and courteous manner. 72 THOS. BAILEY. is not quickly and|T. Flour! Flour! Flour!
