Official County and City Paper SUBSCRIPTION $5 PER YEAR Compare the Men. . Itis remarkable how the re- publican and the democratic nominees for governor of his state have run together and how radically they have differed in action. For eight years, Robert C. Dunn, republican candidate for governor was auditor of the state. During that time he drafted and secured the passage of many of the laws now most highly prized on the statute books of the state. So actiye a force was Mr. Dunn during these years that his fame as a state auditor filled every corouer of the state and made him the spontaneous candidate of the people for the nomination for governor. 3 During almost the same eight years, John A. Johnson, demo- cratic candidate for governor, was a member of the state sen- ate, but the journal of the senate fails to show one bit of construc- tive legislation which he cham- pioned.” Although a senator of the state for two terms there is not one single item in the state’s upbuilding which may be cred- ited to Mr. Johnson. On the other hand every measure and every policy and every thing ac- complished in the past eight. years to make Minnesota the great state that it is, has been accomplished in the face of Mr. Johnson’s opposition. Which of these two men will you have for the governor of the state? A Strong Pull and a Long Pull. If the people of the city will act at once the contracts for the con- struction of the road will be let within a week. The call for a mass meeting at the court house tonight to con- sider this very important matter should be responded to by every person who has any material in- terest whatever in the welfare of the city. The meeting should be the biggest meeting of the citi zens of this city that has ever been gotton together. Negotiations for the road have reached the point where all that is necessary to secure the road is your presence at the meeting to- night. Will you help that much? A strong pull and a long pull and a pull all together will make the road certain within a few days. A YEAR ago the campaign, state and national, was on in full blast. 1t has kept the nafion and the state stirred to their foundations ever since, yet today there is less interest in matters political than for many a year so short a time before elections. The truth is that the strain has been too intense; it has not only seriously interfered with busi ness for a year past, but it has Pioneer worn out the interest of the people generally, and we are close to a point where we shall be ready to pray to be delivered from elections.
