Bemidji is very fortunate in- deed in securing a lecture from Dr. Francis Maurice Egan who! has consented to deliver one of his popular lectures next Mon- day evening for the benefit of the public library, Dr. Egan is one of the foremost literary men of the day, his stories and poems ranking among the best of mod. ern contributions to literature- He has an intimate acquaintance with nearly all the literary cele- brites of the day on this sideof the water so that his lectures have that personal interest which is so hard to get but so thorough- ly eujoyed by the hearer. Dr. Egan is a pleasant and enter- taining speaker, and in addition to being a writer himself, isa critic of recognized standing. He isat the head of the depart- ment of English Literature in the Catholic University at Wash- ington and is one of the world’s authorities on literature. His lecture will be upon “The Place of the Novel in Literature” and the subject wili be treated ina popular way. A lecturer of Dr. Eagan’s abil- ity could only be secured tocome to Bemidji for alarge sum but he has very generously offered his services gratuitously for the benefit of the public library.
