There are a few papers in the state who are trying to malke it appear that there is wide disaf- fection in the republican ranks. As a matter of fact the republi- cans of the state are remarkably united considering the bitter tight which preceeded * the re- publican convention. Tlere are disgruntled republi- cans here and there who ‘will vote for Johnson because they could not succeed in nominating Judge Collins, but their number will be offset a hundred times by the democrats who will vote for Dunn. As an evidence of the sentiment prevailing throughout the state, take the following from the Redwood Falls Gazette: Mower county sent upa delegation for Hon. Loren W, Collins for governor at the last Republican state con- vention. Today there is not a more enthusiastic bunch of Republicans in the state for R. C. Dunn and "the remain- der of the ticket than are those same Mower county Republicans. Similar utterances are coming from loyal Republican all over the state. Mr. Dunn’s pre emi- nent ability to fill the office of governor with honor to himself and profit to the people of Min- nesota is everywhere recognized and his majority November 8th, willbe far above the normal Re- publican majority in this state. Why? Why should a single voter in Beltrami or Clearwater counties vote for a man who lives in Red Lake county as against a man who lives in Clearwater county in choosing a represeutative for the legislature this winter? The interests of Beltrami and Clearwatercounties are identi- cal. The two counties are peELc tically one and it would be as reasonable to vote for a represen- tative living in Red Lake county as it would be for the people of the Ninth congressional district to vote for a representative in congress living in the Eighth district. Therg is nolaw against doingeither excopt the law of common sense. In Dr.L. L. LN economy and efficiency of administration the board of con- trol has proved its worth and we believe that the board isnow firmly fixed as oneof Minnesota’s institutions. The putting of in- stitutions under- the control of the board however “is entirely foreign to the plan as at first conceived and is roundly con- demmed by all educators and by all disinterested parties gen- erally. It is but rational that thejuniversity and normalschools, being institutions entirely difier- ent in purpose and character, from the state penitentiary, the reformatory etc., should be man- aged by a separate board. The board of control plan was first proposed by Mr. Dunn, the edu- cational institutions not being in- cluded; the obnoxious amend- went, placing the educational in- stitutions within the authority of the boardwas worked for and voted for by Mr. Johnson. Both gentlemen are candidates for governor of Minnesota.
