Sntered in the postofiice at Bemidji, Minn., as second c1ass matter.. Official County and City Paper SUBSCRIPTION $5 PER YEAR Must Be Cleared Up* The murder of two defense- less persons, an aged man and a young woman, in the Quiring country is one of the most brutal and revolting crimes of the gen- eration and every consideration of self interest, justice and right demands that the guilty parties .| be discovered and.that the full punishment prescribed by the law be meted out to them. The mystery of who did the deed is still as dark and impenetrable as it was when Mr. Dahl and his daughter was first missing. Ap- parently no direct evidence in- criminating any one person has been secured; there is almost no circumstantial evidence; there is nothing but a conviction that certain men are guilty. The Quiring eountry is not overrun with ruffians; neither is any other section of Beltrami county. Nevertheless by this brutal mur- der, the homestead districts of Beltrami county had thrust upon them a hard name. A few des- perate characters in the Quir- ing country have done this, They need to be cleaned out and we believe that they will be. Even though the mystery of the mur- der of the Dahls is not finally solved as this time the bad characters who have infested the Quiring country have got to go. The sooner they go the bet- ter for them. But the Pioneer is confident that the guilty parties shall not escape. Beltrami county has got to do it if it has to keep at it all winter. ONE of the flaws in the prim- not bring out a full vote and that the candidate nominated usually is the choice of his party by the grace of but a minor fraction of its members. It is probable that Beltrami county will suffer more severely in this respect than most of the other counties of the state inasmuch as many of its voters leave this season of the year to work in the wheat fields of the Red river valley and the Dakotas, Probably not more than one half of the normal vote of the county will be cast Sep- tember 20. This is a feature of the law that deserves earnest consideration when the matter of amendment to the primary law comes to be taken up. RoBERT C. DUNN is a man whom the people have confidence in for when they trusted him he was faithful to his trust. He did more than was required of him. When we have to have hired man that is the kind to get; which is why more people will want Mr. Dunn next November than ever before wanted a governor in Minnestoa, 7 SoME democratic impers are still telling how much money it cost Bob Dunn to be nominated. They had better be thinking how much money it is going to cost the democratic candidate to be defeated.
