A party of stockmen, mostly from Chicago, are forming a com- pany for the purpose of buying and utilizing for grazing purposes the great stretches of cut-over lands in northern Minnesota for grazing purposes. Thousands of acres of. land which have been stripped of the marketable timber and are now practically valueless to the tim. ber men who own them would be very valuable to stockmen for razing purposes. All of these tracts are thickly covered with wild grass while in many places clover and timothy is found in abundance. Should the deal go through it is the intention of the promoters to bring the cattle’'in from other states each spring and place them in the grazing grounds in charge of cowboys, who will look after thém until fall, when the stock will be shipped out and sold. MEN MAY BE IDLE FOR SOME TIME. *‘Big Dick” Said to Be Overrun With Men and Prices For Labor Are Low. Bemidji has contributed about two-hundred hands to the harvest fields so far this season. The harvest rates have been on for a full week and it is estimated that about that number have taken advantage of the special rates to go into the grain belt which gives promise of being especially busy for some weeks to comeé. 1t is thought, however, that the Bemidji contingert is likely to be idle for a number of days yet. A large number of those going from here chose to go the northerly fields up toward the Devils Lake country where the crops are al- ways quite a little later than in the southern part of the state. The men who have gone, however are mostly old harvest hands and many of them had been waiting only for the cheap rates to go into effect in order that they might get into the wheat coun- try. Work elsewhere has been light during the summer and even those who havé not chosen to go to the harvest fields quite this early have accepted other employment during the short time that intervenes before their departure for North Dakota. Anton Gordon has returned from a trip through the town- ships of Port Hope, Hagali and Taylor. He reports the crops through that section of the county as very good. Dairying has taken quite an impetus in those townships during the past year. e eeeale e o o) t Mellick Embroidery, o toitam an Drawn Work and e Lace a specialty. 20 4 pm Mrs. Jess Freestone, ~—TEACHER OF— Art Embroidery Fine Needle Work.
