West Virginia Republican Leaders Confer With President, ‘Washington, Aug. 6.—Consideration of political matters occupied some of President Roosevelt's time prior to the assembling of the cabinet. Sen- ators Elkins and Scott and Republican State Chairman Elliott Northcott of West Virginia had an extended con- ference with him regarding the situa- tion in their state. While all the de- tails of the conference were not dis- closed it is known that the three West Virginians gave the president their views regarding the conduct of the campaign in West Virginia and their judgment as to the result. Chairman Northcott assured the president that he was convinced, after a thorough review of the situation in the state, that the Republicans would carry West Virginia by a majority increased over that of 1900. McKinley carried the state then by 21,000. Chairman Northeott gave in detail the reasons which inducel his optimistic views. Cholera Infantum.
