Dunn, republican for nominated becavse the people believed in him—believed that hie is a manto whow the right gov- candidate governor, was ernment of the state Mr. since the eonvention which nomi- can safely be trusted. Dunn’s conduct nated him is renewed assurance that he is the man of all other’s to be made the next governor of the state. The thing which dis- tinguished him as state duditor was action in the'interest of the state. The wav Mr, Dunn is bis own platform is recommend- to every voter of the state regardless of political affilia- tion. Shortly after the conven- tion Mr. certain terms for independent and decisive making ing him Dunn A4eclared in no un- an extention of the primary eclection law to state officials. A few days ago he announced that if elected gov- ernor he would do everything in his power to secure an inecrease in the gross earnings tax on rail- road and other corporations of a similar nature a proposition for which he has labored carnestly for years. At this rate Mr. Dunn will soon have a platform that is as broad as the state. The steady increase in the cir- culation of the Pioneer, both daily and weekly, is a source of gratification to the management as it must also be to the paper’s large and growing clientle of advertisers. The combined ecir- culation of the daily and weekly Pioneer is now between six and seven fimes that of its nearest competitor in Beltrami county, and both papers are making steady additions. Both as a and as an adver- tising medium the Pioneer has news medinm steadily increased in value and the people of Bemidji and Bel- trami county are giving daily as- surance of their appreciation of that fact. D. H. Congdon of Blackduck is spending a few days in Bemidji making known his candidacy for county superintendentof schools. Mr. Congdon has announced his candidacy at the solicitation of friends in different parts of the county who realize tvhat he is eminently fitted by education and experience to discharge the duties of the office in a manner that will be very satisfactory to the people of the county. Mr. Congdon has taught about seven yc:u'sin Minnesota and South Dakota and is very familiar with school work of all kinds. He was clerls of the board of education at Gray Eagle for eleven-years and has had a similar position at Blackduck during the past two years, sothat although he has not been teaching for some time he has kept in close touch with school work, The contest between Messrs. Loud, Gibbons and Funkley for the county attorneyshippromises to be one of the hottest fights in the pre-primary campaign. At present however there is noth- ing doing Mr, Funkley being the only one of the three whois actively campaigning. It is now said that neither D. C. Smyth or K. Meclver will file as candidates for register of deeds leaving the fight to Messrs Phibbs, Swedback and Harris. Cholera Infantum. This diseaselhas lost its terrors since Chamberlain’s Colic, Chol- era and Diarrhoea Remedy came into general use. The uniform success which atiends the use of this remedy in all cases of bowe! complaint in children has made it a favorite wherever its value has become known. For sale at Bark- er’s drug store. Out in the wild woods all by himself in the picturesque strip of territory surrounding the Itasca state park, Attorney R. M. Hayes killed a bear, no Bohe- mian bear or trammed animal one cither, but a real live “grizaly.”’ At least that is the sum and sub- stance of the thrilling yarn which he brought with him upon his return to Crookston last ‘evening from a trip through the Mallar d Lake country where he has spent the past week going over old land marks, state and government monuments to hccule evidence ina land case. Hayes aid not bring back ti‘m“lb]e eyidence of the bear either in hide, flesh or paws but a huge pair of deer horns which bedecked him upon his arrival told of a jaunt through the woods, Attorney Hayes says the country around Mallard Lake is settling up fast, that the na tives are thrifty and conse- quently prosperous and that a more beautiful spot for a summer outing could not be imagined.
