ALY The reason for this is found in the fact that 6000 people read the Pioneer every day. R eciprocal Demurrage. The St. Paul board of trade has begun an agitation for the passage of alaw for reciprocal demurrage for the benefit of shippers. This isa matter in which north central Minnesota is | not much interested at present, but it will be some day, and when that day volls around it would be good to have a law for reciprocal demurrage upon the statute books ready for our use. Several states have introduced bills for such laws, providing for a payment penalty to‘the shipper “in the event he is not promptly furnished with cars in which to transport his goods, to compen- sate the owner for the want of movement of the car at a reason- able rate per day and to compen- sate the receiver in the event the *|car is not placed on unloading tracks promptly on arrival after destination,” Such a law is equit- able as the ownerand the carrier occupy reciprocal relations, and an attempt will be made next winter to secure favorable action upon a bill of this kind in the Minnesota legislature. THE Minneapolis Journal lost a lot of its prestige in Minnesota by reason of the contemptible campaign it- conducted against Robert C. Dunn before the con- vention. It is now pursuring the same tacticts and before the election is over the Journal will be the most despised paper in the state if it continues as it has set out. While professing to re- pudiate Mr. Dunn on the high grounds that he is not fit for the office of governor, the Journal resorts to all that is little and low |f inits campaign against the re- publican nominee. as does the Journal; democratic papers have too much respect for themselves to resort to the | shifty trickery of the Journal. Burglary Like Ours. St. Cloud, Minn., July 21.—The postoffice at Royalton, near this city, was burglarized last night. The safe ,was blown open by dynamite, nearly wrecking the whole building, and thieves se- cured $600 worth of stamps and $100 in currency. -The burglars escaped in a rig and are believed to have gone toward St. Cloud, as a portion of the stamps were found on the road leading to St. Cloud this morning. Two strangers, who were noticed hanging about Royalton yester- day, are suspected of the crime, but at present there is no trace of their whereabouts.
