The County Campaign. On the twentieth day of Sep- tember, just two months from today; the primary election will be held and candidates will be placed in nomination for the November election by the differ- ent political parties. Owing to the fact that Beltrami county is overwhelmingly republican inter- est centers principally in the re- publican candidates. Thanks to the republican party candidates for office are now for the most part nominated as well as elected by the people themselves and the nominations made two months from today will be made by pop- ular vote. The primary election law was placed npon the statute books that the individual voters might be able to place in nomination the best man for the office and the little experience we have had with the law thus far shows that the people are keen to take ad- vantage of this ~great reform. Men have been nominated for office, county, legislative, gressional, who could not boast the favor of a corporals guard of politicians; they were chosen for the same reason that a business man hires his assistants—be- cause they were fitted for the po- sition, not because some politi- tician placed their names upon the party ticket. The primary campaign for the nomination of county officers in Beltrami county is now well un- der way. The people of the county have the power to nomin- ate men who are qualitied tofill the various offices and we believe that it is this idea which will influence four out of every five voters as they go to the nominating polls September 20th. Any citizen in the county has the right to offer himself asa candidate for the nomination to any office. But he must. render the people of the county reasons why he should be chosen— he must show experience, or pecul- iar ability, and it is far better if he can show both, together with a record for every day honesty, This showing together with a genial personality will get many votes and the people are looking for such men. The Pioneer will support no man for nomination unless he can show that by reason of ex- perience, ability and integrity he is better fitted for the position to which he aspires than any of the other candidates for that posi- tion. Where this cannot be clearly shown we believe that each man should be left to pre- sent his own case to the voters of the county. May the best men win. con- ROQSEVELT has been nomin- ated for the presidency of the United States and Folk will be nominated for the governorship of Missouri for the same rea- son — because the people de- manded them. The appearance of a minstrel organization -is now so rare a theatrical event, that by strikihg contrast with the past it forcibly recalls toall the old theater goers the time when similar troupes were counted by thefens, where now they figure only in the units. The burnt cork artist is distinctly an American product, and_ with more - or less prominence has been before the public for three quarters of a century. As early as 1815 negro impersonations were given in connection with melo-drama, but it was not until 1843 that special minstrel troupes were organized, the first consist- ing of that famous quareite, Dan Ermmett, (the author of Dixie) Frank Brower, Billy Whitlock date the passage of the years thousands of similar organiza- tions, and this branch of the dramatic art has raised into national and in some instances remembered names as Dan Em- ment, Charley White, George Christy, Eph Horn, Nelse Sey- mour, Billy Burch, Billy Backus, Ben Cotton, Bob Hart, Ben Gard- ner, Luke Schoolcraft, Stephen Foster, Gus Howard, Billy Gray, Bob Slavin, Tony Hart, Lew Benedict, Billy Arlington, Cal Wagner, and Clarence Powell, the latter now the bright partic- ular star with Richards & Prin- gle’s Famous Georgia Minstrels House this evening. will take more than- one Swallow Mr. Sale has been given a bill have witnessed hundreds if not | international renown such well | who will appear at the Opera 2 SCHROEDER Pillsbury’s Best Patent Flour. She assists (if desired) all ladies in getiing ready for examinations; is present (if desired) while I am giving adjustments. The cause of all female diseases is in the spinal column (small of the back) and I find it is unnecessary to adjust other than the cause; for the removal of the cause always allows the diseased organs to resume their natural positions and functions.
