HOPE FOR VICTORY Bemidji Running Team Con- testing For Championship " Honors This Afternoon. " TEAM GOES INTO. RACE WITH EXCELLENT PROSPECTS. - Admitted That Banner Race Will Be Between Hallock, Warren and Bemidji Teams. The Bemidji running team in attendance at the Firemen’s Tournament at Hallock this after- noon: contests for the champion- * ship of the Northern Minnesota ‘association in the banner: hose race and news of the outcome is anxiously awaited in this city. The race was run about 4 o’clock and the result should be known some time this evening. Witte pitched and was given miserable support. The ‘locals failed as usnal to hit the ball and played a very ragged game. There was a sad lack of ginger all-around and_the game should not have been lost. The home team is faster than the Brainerd bunch but combined hard luck in the hitting with listless, half- hearted playing and made a spectacle of itself. The infield yesterday was the sttongest yet but the outfield did the business. Ludwig was put out in the fifth with a broken finger and Finn went in to catch, Hazen who went to his position in left field made two yellow errors and Neelan entered the running with a brace quite as,bad. The visi ors were allowed to play horss Hallock this morning states that the boys arrived in good shape and were-in-excellent trim and :~spirits; They are the lightest team in attendance at the tourna- ment and the track is slow, but they are confident of winning nevertheless. In the coupling - contest which occurs tomorrow Earl Geil and Ray Dennis will be entered for ‘the home depart- ment. Dennis recently made the coupling in four and one half seconds and it has often been won iu five and slower. Geil, who: is a sure coupler, is going: in about five seconds and better. The banner race is the best event of the entire program. The Hallock and Warren teams in at: tendanceare alsoin splendid form and the contest is admittedly be- tween the teams from those towns and Bemidji. HUMMER TOWN Shotley, New Town On Red Lake Will Be One of The Banner Ones. The new town on Red Lake, which has been anticipated by real estate men for -some time and is generally conceded as one of the bést possibilities in this section will be platted in the near future .and is to be known as Shotley. The surrounding caun/ti:y} is rich -in timber and it will be a center for a very large tributary territory. It is claimed that a railway will beat Shotleyinside of a year and already there are a number of settlers there. Fourth of July goods at Pet- erson’s. ¢ PRINCESS Grocery Co.
