During the past month the members of the running team have been training faithfully, and now, on the eve of the tournament, every member is in the pink of condition. The vil- as-—purchased—and- presented several new suits to the department, and now there can be musternd in line thirty uniformed men. For the. last three nights, the members of the department have been under the orders of Judge P. M. Lange, of this place, who has been putting them through the. simpler mili- tary formations, and the squad presents a very neat appearance. the running team will be unable to attend the tournament, which will weaken the running, but Dmmg the practice, the local have nearly equaled the best time ever made by any team in the association, and all are run- ning very strong. The members of the fire department leit Cass Lake for. Grand Rapids on the noon train today, the first day of _| the tournament, and it is the in tention of the citizens of this place to send to the Rapids on~the late” train a large and enthusiastic delegation to cheer on the running team and also.fo participate in the annual parade. Senator Wm, O’Neil of Wisconsin, who is superintend- ent of logging and who makes his headquarters in Cass Lake, will accompany the -firemen and respond to the speech of welcome. Mayor Stein will head the local delegation, and the Cass Lake fire Jaddies will not want for sup- porters. Itis believed that a fair amount of luck, the local team will win its full share of the purses offered, as it is by far the the speediest and ‘best balanced team that the department -has ever gotten together.
