The Pioneer sincerely hopes that failure of the council set the date for the charter election is not an indica- tion that that body intends to let the election go by default. Whether the charter submittcd by the commission is what Be- midji wants or not, we belicve that the matter should be sub- mitted to the people. This is not a matter in which the council can afford to be an obstructionist. To refuse to put the charter be- fore the people at this time would certainly place the council in an unfavorable We ave contident that those members of the council, if any, who oppose submission at the presert time are sincere in their motives but last evening to position. we are equally confident that failure to submit would be un- wise. The city needs a charter and the quicker the better. If the charter submitted is the right one let us find it out and adopt ivat once.
