Cass Lake Voice; The Be- midji Daily Pioneer of Satur- day was a “hummer”—one of the kind of papers that makes a citizen of the town in which it is printed feel proud of his home commun- ity. The paper consisted of twenty-eight ‘pages, twenty- four of which were devoted to an exceptionally clever write-up of the city of Be- midji and of Beltrami county and_ their resources. - The issue was illustrated with half-tone cuts of prominent people over —in Beltrami county and their business enterprises, and was a credit to every member of the Pioneer staff. Such publica- tions are of untold benefit to any community. THE public sehools of Bemidji close this week for the long vaca- tion. We are glad to embrace the occasion to pay a small trib- ute to the teacher, of whom we know so little.. It is eloquent of industry and ability of the teachers of this country that our schools-are so shamefully. There has been alto- gether too much bickeringamong the papers of this section and if we _ quit emphasizing the sup- posed disadvantages of our neigh- bors and spend time and ink in- stead -.in advertising the un- doubted resourges and advan- tages of this part of the state we shall better serve the public for whose benefit we exist. Jusr where and how and when Robert C. The earth had tossed off its covering of snow, preparatoly to ‘getting up.” The streams were high. The robins awakened the lazy sleeper with their disconnected notes of concert. - The highlands already waved their greenish banners and the envious lowlands were calling for the plow. Nature was bursting’ forth in song. Even the desolate places, which winter had long held cap- tive, lost ‘the pathos of poverty for the glory of avision The sternness of winter had softened to the’ spirit of a dove and the heart’of man beat in re- sponsive throbs to the glory of a springtime dawn. As the rose opens: to the ten- der touch of sun beams, so opens the heart of charity to the resur- rected heat rays that fall direct. A battered “lumberjack’’ stood before the bar in a village saloon. Last night he stood there a brief millionaire. Today heis “all in.”” Listen'to this dialogue between him and the generous clerk with bosom: “Say, I'm broke. quarter for my dinner.” “For your dinner”’? “Yep.” “Well bring your dinner around about 12 o’clock and may be I'll give you a quarter for it.” * Whooping Cough. “Tn the spring of 1901 my child ren had a whooping cough,” says Mrs.-D. W. Capps, of Capps, Ala. “I used Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy with the most satis- factory results. I thenk this is the best remedy I have ever seen for whooping cough.” This reme- dy keeps the cough loose, lessens the severity and frequency of the-coughing—spells—and coun- teracts any tendency toward pneu monia.
