PIONEER PUBLISHING CO. By R. W. HITCHCOCK. D aa Entered In the postofiice at BewldJi, Miuni, as second class matter. Official County and City Paper SUBSCRIPTION $5 PER YEAR Immigration Convention. A state immigration convention will be held at St. Paul June 14 and 15 with the purposé of de- vising some-systematic plan for inducing immigration. 1t is pointed out by the com- mittee. having this matter charge that while neighboring states have their thoroughly or- ganized bureaus of immigration Minnesota is doing nothing in an organized way to induce settlers to come to the state. This is a matter which the Pioneer has commented upon time and again from a local standpoint and we believe that no more important steps for the welfare of Minne- sota can be taken than the organ- izeation of some sort of a bureau of immigration. The June convention to be held in St. Paul it is hoped will be attended by delegates from at least a majority of the counties of the state and the governor will shortly appoint delegates from each country. This is a movement which it will pay eyery community and every business to ‘push along. in man Campaign Against Divorce. The world seems to have well nigh forgotten that it has been said, “What' God has joined to- gether let not man put asunder,” Divorces have for years been s0 common as not to- attract at- tention. They have now become s0 common that they are attract- ing a good deal of attention from the evangelical churches of the world. Whatever may be the question has become a black peril in this nation. - Lf divorces shall continue to be secured with in- creasing ease and if the number of them shall continue to multi- ply so terribly-every- man who loves his home has reason.to be alarmed. The divorce evil is a social question that concerns the life of the nation. The fourteen lead- ing denominations of America which-have—united—for—a—cam- paign against it have begun none oo soon. THE mpubhc:m county com- mittee appointed by the state committee to handle affairs in Clearwater county shows beyond any reasonable doubt that the Collins-Van Sant machine is tak- ing every-advantage of the political ‘to land Collins in the gubernatorial chair. mittee as announced are B. I\ Brown, chairman; Dr. E. N. Falk, M. J. Kobb, A. L. Gordon, M. Teitsworth and V. L. Ellis, all with the exception of A. L. The Roseau Queen is afloat and transportation upnnrth no longer waits on Jim Hill’s pr ocrastinat- ing steam cars. By the time Bemidji’s new hotel completes the round of the north country newspapers it will cost $100,000. Plant a tree and make it stick is a motto that should hang in every farm home of the Red River valley.
