RESIGNATION IS TENDERED Popular Principal of City Schools Will Not Teach Next Year. _HAS BEEN CONNECTED WITH " CITY SCHOOLS THREE YEARS: Resignation Will Be Acted on at Next Meeting of School Board. Prof, H. L. Edmunds, who for} the past two years has hconi superintendent of the schools has tendered his res nation to the board of cducation and will not teach school in Be- midji next year. The ne of Mr. resignation will be a surprise to his friends. During the three years that hehas been connected with the ecity schools he has| made an excellent record, The schools bf the city have been a problem. The facilities of the | district at times have been cramped, and the superintend- ! ent’s position was not always an enviable one. Mr. Edmunds proved himself equal to all emer gencies, however, and has beel an exceptionally capable super- i intendent, thoroughly interested | in his work and has given lis| best effort to the district at] Lirge. GABLE WINS THE CASE BROUGHT BY PLUMBING €0. Grand Jury Inspects Poor Farm This Afternoon and Will Be Through Tomorrow. The case of John H. Johnson, guardian of Anna Johnson, ys. Anton Gordon is occupying the attention of the district court this afternoon and is attracting a very great-deal of attention: The action makes Mr. Gordon the de- fendant on a charge of libel. Evidence in the matter- was taixen this forenoon and the greater part of this afternoon. Miss Anna Johnson, who is vir- tually the plaintiff, was a 00l teacher in district 79 and Gordon is purported to have written a letter to the school board, in which her ability was attacked and charges of a damaging nature made. Mr. Gordon is repre- sented by Attorney Campbell, and Attorney John Gibbons is appearing for the plaintiff. The jury this morning re- turned a verdict for the defend- ant in the case of the Jerrard Plumbing Co. vs. Mrs. Jennie J. Gable. The action was a pro- ceeding in replevin and has been in litigation for some time. The case will be lppL‘IllLd to the su- preme court. The Grand Jury. The grand jury has so far re- turned eight true bills. It is ex- pected to tinish its labors tomor- row. This afternoon the jury in charge of Foreman Geil drove to the county poor farm, where the buildings were inspected.
